All NCAA sports can be discussed on this board. There is no separation of Wisconsin teams from Illinois teams, so play nice.

Illinois men's basketball team will travel to Italy for a series of games in August, the school announced on Wednesday. The Illini will hold 10 practices before departing for Italy on Aug. 10. They are expected to play four to five Italian professional teams and visit Como, Florence, Rome and Venice before returning on Aug. 20. "We are excited about taking our team to Italy in August," Illinois coach Bruce Weber said in a statement. "It's a great opportunity for us to come together as a team and learn more about each other. With six new players joining the roster, we feel it's extremely important for us to take advantage of this trip heading into next season." The NCAA allows teams to travel internationally once every four years. The Illini graduated four starters and lost freshman Jereme Richmond to the NBA draft from last year's NCAA tournament team. They will return sophomore guards Brandon Paul and D.J. Richardson, the team's fourth and fifth leading scorers, and welcome six newcomers. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/ncb/n ... id=6437609

Malcolm Hill commits to IllinoisBelleville East junior guard Malcolm Hill committed to Illinois on Monday. Hill, a 6-foot-5 guard, chose the Illini over Kansas State, Missouri and Xavier. He is ranked No. 58 in the Class of 2013 ESPNU Super 60 and the No. 13 shooting guard in the class. http://espn.go.com/chicago/ncb/story/_/ ... ing-illini

Reason to worry for Illinois?Illinois enters the 2011-12 season with heightened expectations on the heels of a run to the Round of 32 in last year's NCAA Tournament. They may already have a potential obstacle to deal with though. Shannon Ryan of the Chicago Tribune points out on twitter today that PG Sam Maniscalco is expected to see limited minutes in the team's matchup with Loyola on Friday. The transfer from Bradley is recovering from an ankle injury and still working his way back to full strength. Maniscalco has only one year of eligibility remaining but is seen by many as the man who will step in and handle a good amount of the point guard duties with the departure of Demetri McCamey. Tracy Abrams is in the mix as well, but he's an unproven freshman. This could simply be the next step in Maniscalco's recovery. But if the injury lingers, it could cause the Illini some problems. Another potential option for Bruce Weber to consider is 6-foot-5 sophomore Joseph Bertrand, who has played very well in exhibition games. Bertrand is an athlete with great size for the position, and may be used to help out at the point if necessary. http://insider.espn.go.com/insider/features/rumors

2-0! Gimme games, but 2-0! This looks familiar, doesn't it Mr. Zook?

3-0
I really like that we are playing a ton of young guys. 3 freshman getting a ton of minutes in Egwu, Shaw, and Abrams. This year may be tough, but next year should be a whole lot of fun. Only senior is Maniscalco and with the NBA labor issues, you may see Leonard stay one more season.

Solid win over Richmond. Yeah, they aren't as good as their tourney team was but still a solid neutral court win. Think we have ISU Redbirds now since we won. Sweet.

Yeah, did you watch the game cubbie? Leonard was fantastic. He looked dominant. Of course it didn't hurt that Richmond didn't have a guy taller than 6-9.
Fun team to watch. I still think there will be growing pains, but I really like what I see.

I couldn't find it??? Nothing on ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU...then I figured Big10 Network but nothing there either. Had to keep track with my App on my phone because I had no clue what it was on...I just figured it wasn't on at that point. We do have ISU tonight...haha should be a good one. Can't lose to the Redbirds! Stache, if you read this before tonight's game will this one be televised?

Down go the baby brothers!! Closer game than I expected, not surprised though with all our new guys. DJ shot the ball well tonight, but BP was terrible! I like Malscalco's decision making so far also.
Thanks for that Stache, was able to watch it tonight.

We couldn't feed the post at all this game. Leonard would get good position, but the entry feeds would be poor or wouldn't be there at all. If Leonard gets the ball more, this game isn't close. Too many jump shots.
Good games from DJ, Sam, and Bertrand.

Maniscalco doing everything out there tonight!!!
Big road win in our first true test away from Champaign. Sam played great as mentioned and Brandon finally had pretty good game. Myers had a productive game but like they were discussing on the telecast he needs to stop begging the officials for calls and just keep playing the game. He's such a big factor in how good this team can be.
- 7-0 for the first time in 5 years - Weber with his 200 career win tonight. Congrats, Bruce!

Solid win. Road wins are tough anywhere so you take them whenever they come.
Sam was huge. Just onions time and time again. Hes the leader we havent had ever since Frazier graduated.
Gotta get better at entering the ball to Leonard. Hes a beast and pretty much unstoppable once he gets it.

3 years in a row for the Big 10. ACC sucks after the top 2 or 3. Big Ten is pretty deep all the way through minus Iowa

I know it's early, but the Big Ten is solid. Good records from top to bottom (minus Iowa). Again, it's early, but the Big Ten is winning games early that they need to win. They are going to beat up on each other in conference play. Come tourney time, there are still going to be a lot of eligible teams from the Big Ten.
As for Illinois, Maryland is improving, but still a tough place to play. Good win, especially being down all of the first half, into the second half, then taking the lead and maintaining it and putting them away by nine.
