Reds acquire SD’s Mat Latos for Yonder Alonso, Brad Boxberger, Yasmani Grandal and Edinson Volquez.

Padres got a package similar to one if Latos was in his contract year or something...but he's not.

Reds fans are ecstatic.

This is mind bogglingly stupid move by the Padres. It makes no sense, they control Latos for 4 more years. This is crazy. It's not a firesale, not a cost cutting move, just insanity to trade a pitcher that good for nothing. This is the kind of haul you get for a star pitcher that's a free agent in a year or 1.5 years, not a 24 year stud you control until 2015.

I'm surprised they moved Latos, but I think the Pads got a great deal in return. I think the Reds gave up a lot for Latos.

As a Reds fan, I think they gave up too much. But then again, Yonder wasn't going to play at first with Votto on the team, we already know what Volquez would give us and Grandal would be stuck behind Mesoraco in the future as catcher. The Reds want to win now. And with Pujols and La Russa gone as well as the Astros moving to the AL next season, the future is looking bright.
