Astros owner Drayton McLane is expected to complete the sale of the team to Jim Crane in mid-November, according to Peter Gammons of MLB Network (on Twitter). The arrangement would move Houston to the American League West and even MLB into two leagues of 15 teams. The sale of the Astros is intertwined with baseball's current round of collective bargaining. MLB is likely to add a Wild Card team by 2012 or 2013 and moving the Astros to the American League would likely accelerate expanded playoffs. McLane recently said he expects the sale to be complete within three or four weeks. Last week, MLBTR's Tim Dierkes looked ahead to Houston's offseason. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/10/a ... to-al.html

Probably would be smarter to split the dodgers and giants, since there are three cali teams in the nl. that would also end the violence at the games.

Not gonna happen, MLB doesn't want to break up rivalries. Plus, three California teams in the NL? You realize that there are 5 California teams, so no matter what you do, one league will have 3.

Yeah. What an "idiot"!!! It goes beyond the obvious of splitting rivalries. Under that plan, either both LA teams would be in the AL or both Bay Area teams would be in AL. Somebody didn't quite think it through.

Oh, sorry, I thought the livelihood of fans might play a part. At least two La teams or two bay teams might have a healthier rivalry, not one full of bloodshed.

there will finally be divisional alignment. the nl central was the only division with 6 teams, and the al west had 4. makes perfect sense.
You look like Babe Ruth's gay brother, Gabe Ruth.

So any word on how they will do the schedule then? Have interleague throughout the season? Or give up on having series typically ending on Tues/Wed/Thurs and Sunday? Or something else?

I heard briefly on mike and mike yesterday that there will be two 15 team leagues, an extra wild card spot, and inter league play throughout the season.

Finally evened out the divisions! However, I'll miss beating up on Houston all year...

And in your drunken haze induced by TLR, you missed this a year or 6 ago. Congrats on informing us on what we all knew

I hate the idea of the extra playoff team, but I kinda like the idea of interleague all year. Should make it fair instead of the current system of playing different teams.

Now that the interleague play will be even amd fair, at the end of the year they should total up the W-L and the league that has most wins in interleague play should get HFA in the world series.

Or they could stop letting teams that suck decide homefield and just give to the team with the better record.
