2012 Payroll threadI suppose we could keep all the debates/arguments/discussions here.
Loe has signed at $2.175M, Marcum and the Brewers have filed with a midpoint of $7.725M, and Veras' midpoint is $2.1875M. Keep in mind that Braun's 2012 salary will be reduced proportionately to how long he is out if suspended (just under $2M). Also I am not trying to project the 25 man roster yet, I know it's not going to be exactly this, just taking some guesses and penciling some guys in near the bottom of the roster who would probably have similar salaries to their counterpart replacements either way. Starters: 1) Greinke - $13.5M 2) Gallardo - $5.5M 3) Marcum - $7.725M 4) Wolf - $9.5M 5) Narveson - $480,000 Total: $36,705,000 Bullpen: CL) Axford - $480,000 SU) Rodriguez - $8M RP) Veras - $2.1875M RP) Loe - $2.175M RP) Estrada - $480,000 RP) Parra - $1.3M RP) Braddock - $480,000 Total: $15,077,500. Lineup: CF) Morgan - $2.35M RF) Hart - $9M 1B) Gamel - $480,000 2B) Weeks - $10M 3B) Ramirez - $6M SS) Gonzalez - $4.25M C ) Lucroy - $480,000 LF) Braun - $6M Total: $38,560,000 Bench: CF) Gomez - $1.9625M 3B) Green - $480,000 C ) Kottaras - $950,000 OF) Aoki - $1M IF) Farris - $480,000 Total: $4,872,500 Miscellaneous: Aoki negotiating fee - $2,500,000 Total: $2,500,000 Rotation: $36,705,000 Bullpen: $15,077,500 Lineup: $38,560,000 Bench: $4,872,500 Miscellaneous: $2,500,000 Total payroll: $97,715,000 EDIT: Updated figures to reflect new minimums salaries of CBA and substituted Parra for Dillard and added actual agreed salary for Loe, and midpoint figure for Marcum. Replaced Schafer with Aoki. Added salary for Aoki. I also added a miscellaneous category which currently just has Aoki's negotiation fee. Going to leave things out of this like Wolf's deferral as we don't really know the terms of that or how long that is spread out, and things like draft signing bonuses. I would count buyouts but I don't think we have any to pay for this year. I believe Betancourt and K-Rod's buyouts were paid for by the Royals and Mets. Re: 2012 Payroll threadJust so you know, with the new CBA the minimum MLB salary is $480K this season, so that would change the values for a couple guys.

Re: 2012 Payroll threadAh, thanks for the update Macha.
So that will change things, but very minimally -- probably half a million difference or so.
Re: 2012 Payroll threadProbably add Parra at 1.3 and take out maybe Dillard?

Re: 2012 Payroll threadNothing set yet, but Melvin said he is "close" to a deal with Aoki, a couple hours before the deadline.

Re: 2012 Payroll threadThanks, forgot about Parra.
Okay, so sub Parra for Dillard or maybe Braddock and the projection probably changes to about $92M.
Re: 2012 Payroll threadCrazy that one setup guy is going to account for well over half our bullpen pay.

Re: 2012 Payroll threadJon Heyman reporting on Twitter that the Aoki deal is all but done, and is a multi-year deal. Things just being finalized.

Re: 2012 Payroll threadDoes that $2.5M that we paid for negotiating rights with him count towards his eventual deal, or is that just dead money?
Re: 2012 Payroll thread
Don't think it can, as that posting fee goes to his team in Japan, not him or his agent. 2009 BrewersCubs.com Best Poster of the Year!
Re: 2012 Payroll thread
It's money spent on the 2012 MLB Payroll. I'm sure I'm going to get spit on for this, but I would include it on this year's payroll. And no, its not part of his deal. Funny Shirts Sayings

Re: 2012 Payroll thread
Well, we still have a long way to go before that actually happens. There are for sure some outliers on the team who could be traded to clear up some room. Funny Shirts Sayings

Re: 2012 Payroll thread
A lot of teams pay 8 mil for their closer, and 500k for their set up, so its really no different. What helps, is at the price, whether buyers or sellers, we can strike a deal at the deadline for KRod, and not lose our current closer
Re: 2012 Payroll thread
Just a little more than your projection.
Re: 2012 Payroll threadYeah, if we are going to look beyond just what the player salaries are for this year, we can't forget about the negotiating price for Aoki, which adds another $2.5M. Also I believe that we owe Wolf $4M in deferred money from 2010 this season which if you add both of those in brings us up to $98,782,500.
Assuming Aoki has signed will pretty assuredly put us over $100M in total costs which will probably bring things to a halt unless payroll is dumped somewhere with Wolf or K-Rod.
Re: 2012 Payroll threadWe've never seen what happened with Wolf's differed money, have we? For all we know it could be spread out over a few years.
Re: 2012 Payroll thread
Re: 2012 Payroll threadWell I way lowballed Marcum's salary estimate then. Going to update it to midpoint.
Re: 2012 Payroll thread
Well, I read from you it was deferred to this season initially. Either way, they Brewers are a damn near lock to break 100 million. ****Ahhhhhhhh and fans head hits the pillow...refressed from a two year argument. Re: 2012 Payroll thread
Why would you get spit on. I'd look at it a a player option year. If they pick it up, it's part of their paryoll. If not, he doesn't counnt. "Without religion, we'd have good people doing good things, and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."
