GT: 10-1 Hamels vs. Gallardoon Seth McClung:
I was talking to my aunt tonight that is loving this as much as I am. Talked about how it brings back memories of her working at County Stadium in 1982 and attending games as a kid. My aunt's best friend (who just passed of cancer) has a son that is a groundscrew worker for the crew. He says by far the nicest, most personable 2 guys on the team (to them) are McClung and Braun. McClung takes the cake as the nicest and most personable. With that said it's great to see what happened today with Braun and McClung dancing around like a little kid. Just great
GT: 10-1 Hamels vs. Gallardowill bill hall and rickie weeks play against hamels?? i'm almost more comfortable at this point in the season against rhp. BOTH durham and counsell in the lineup.
GT: 10-1 Hamels vs. Gallardo
Shit, I started the Opening Day GT on the ESPN board a month ahead of time. "Thank you to the fans. That, ultimately, was the single biggest reason that I decided to stay here. I think the fans here are absolutely incredible. I’m truly excited to say I’ll have the opportunity to be a Milwaukee Brewer going forward." - Ryan Braun
GT: 10-1 Hamels vs. Gallardo
i remember that. that was over on the espn board.
GT: 10-1 Hamels vs. GallardoMelvin, Sveum thank Yost
By Tom Haudricourt One of the first things Doug Melvin did today after the Brewers clinched the NL wild card was send a message to Ned Yost. After the New York Mets fell, 4-2, to Florida, securing the wild card berth for the Brewers, their general manager didn't forget the skipper who put the club in position to do it. "I sent Ned an e-mail," said Melvin, who became emotional while talking about the manager he fired with 12 games remaining in the season. "He went through 93% of the season. I backed Ned and supported him." After owner Mark Attanasio and Melvin made the decision to fire Yost and replace him with third base coach Dale Sveum, Melvin stepped back and let the new leader and his staff do their thing. But Melvin said he never forget the contribution made by Yost in his nearly six years at the helm. "Dale's done a wonderful job these last 12 games in a tough situation, with the pitching the way it was," said Melvin. "But this was part of Ned, too. I think our players recognize that. He took wins off his record to help get to this point. "Ned's a huge part of this. He put us in position to be 16 days over .500." Sveum, whose stoicism was kicked aside by the emotions of the day, also paid tribute to Yost during the wild post-game celebration that spilled onto the Miller Park playing field. "Ned Yost is a good friend of mine," said Sveum. "I wish he could be here right now. "Ned did an unbelievable job for six years, got this organization back on track. It's unfortunate what happened, that ownership felt whatever it felt. Ned Yost deserves a lot of this credit. He'll always be a dear friend." GT: 10-1 Hamels vs. GallardoWhat they said
By Tom Haudricourt Here are some comments from players and other personnel about the Brewers making the post-season for the first time since 1982: Doug Melvin: "I've been here six years. I'm just happy for everybody that's been here. It's been an emotional roller coaster for anybody who has been part of this." Melvin said it was a nervous day for nearly everyone on the staff, waiting to see if 25 years of futility would be washed away or if another heartbreak loomed. "You try to find different things to do," said Melvin. "I got up this morning and went to Starbucks at 8 o'clock. I said, ‘What am I going to do for four hours? Drink coffee?' "I'm happy for the fans. It's been 26 years. That's a long wait. There's so many people involved. It's been wonderful." Ben Sheets, who probably won't be able to pitch: "I'm going to be a cheerleader for awhile. I ain't got no choice. It doesn't look good (to pitch again this year) but you never know. I won't stop trying. "You become a fan of an organization when you're in it for eight years. People who don't think you do are bogus. In the end, good times. It's a lot better than celebrating 106-loss seasons." Interim manager Dale Sveum, on the pitching outlook for the division series: "I'm not even going to talk about that now. We have to weigh our options." Right-hander Yovani Gallardo, who returned Thursday from a knee injury suffered on May 1, can be added to the playoff roster because he was on the disabled list on Sept. 1. Right-hander Jeff Suppan would be available for the opener on full rest and right-hander Dave Bush would have three days of rest since a three-inning relief outing Saturday. Sveum might even consider starting lefty Manny Parra, who looked much better in a relief appearance Saturday, because of the number of left-handed bats in the Phillies' lineup. For CC Sabathia to pitch in the second game in Philadelphia and perhaps twice in the best-of-five series, he'd have to go on short rest for the fourth consecutive start. "We'll all be ready," said Bush. "It's been all hands on deck for the last couple of weeks, so we're used to it." Craig Counsell: "It's unbelievable. I came back here two years ago because I thought this was a bunch of guys who could get this done. To validate that decision and make it come true for the people of Milwaukee, it's special. I'm so happy we could do it for everybody in this city." Last edited by Anonymous on Sep 28th, 2008, 9:51 pm, edited 1 time in total.

GT: 10-1 Hamels vs. Gallardo
it's really sad for Ned. I was by no means a Yost supporter and was far from sad to see him go. With that said he is alot of this but when did Prince finally break out? Right after Yost got fired. Coincidence? maybe but all and all I don't think we make the playoffs if Yost is the manager. We will never know but as much of a part of it as he was, WE, imho, would not be having playoff fever if Yost was still in a brewers uniform
GT: 10-1 Hamels vs. GallardoWhat POSSIBLE cause could there be for Prince not being able to break out until after Yost was fired?
How is it not coincidence. "Without religion, we'd have good people doing good things, and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."
GT: 10-1 Hamels vs. Gallardo
I didn't phrase that right. It was coincidence. (I know I put maybe but I figured the context would suggest I was stating it was). Whether anything changed or not the 'feel' of that team post Yost was something more positive than it was under Yost in September. Is the team as a whole still terrible offensively? yes. I just don't think this team is playoff bound if Yost isn't canned. No one will ever know and I am just glad as hell they found a way this year
GT: 10-1 Hamels vs. GallardoI think there's a bit of merit to it. On the game the other day, I think it was the FOX telecast, the announcers said that when they talked to Prince about what Sveum's first words to the club were he said, "Guys, don't worry about swinging at pitches in the dirt, striking out, or hitting into double plays. I was once a player to and we've all been through that." and then the announcers went on to say that Prince said he felt like a huge weight had been lifted from his shoulders when he heard those words. Correlation? yeah. Causation? we'll never really know.
Prince still been swinging at a lot crap, but he just really got going at a good time. that's all.
GT: 10-1 Hamels vs. GallardoOh, and guess who we'll see in the playoffs (well, at least in the dugout)?
Some dude who looks just like Brett Favre.
GallardoWhat a crappy ass start time. I'd be pissed if our game started then...
GT: 10-1 Hamels vs. GallardoI'm liking Gallardo in Game 1. He is the perfect guy to start a series with the amount of pressure out there for a playoff game in 26 years.
Does anyone know when they will announce the starter for the first game? One time for your mind...
GT: 10-1 Hamels vs. Gallardo
I feel like the whole team relaxes when he and CC are up there. They know that nothing will get to them. "The red jersey will be off now."- Aaron Kampman
GT: 10-1 Hamels vs. Gallardook, wtf guys? we want to havbe nothing but good karma going for us...YOU DONT MAKE A GT UNTIL THE LINEUPS ARE POSTED! BAD KARMA
ehh, i dont give a fuck
GT: 10-1 Hamels vs. Gallardo
I'm not real big on the karma thing, but a game thread three days in advance? That's a big no-no. If you're that worried about making sure the GT is yours just call it and say "I'm going to start tomorrow's game thread" or Game 1's GT. Then again, I'm pretty fucking sure what anyone on this forum does will have absolutely no impact whatsoever. "Without religion, we'd have good people doing good things, and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."
