What to do with Donald D?

Postby RetardRon on Jan 18th, 2012, 1:36 pm

After the loss Driver repeated that he isn't ready to hang em up and wants to play until he is 40. This year he was our #4 WR and caught 40 balls for 500 yards. In March he is due a $2.2 Million ROSTER bonus.

I hate to say it as I love the guy, but the Packers need to let him go. He can't separate anymore and there are faster, stronger and younger guys waiting for their chance behind him.. Cobb moves up to #4 and you elevate the guy who declined being on the Vikings roster for a chance to stay on our practice squad, Gurley, to #5.

Sorry to say it, but I think Gurley can do more on offense than Driver would be able to and we all remember his special teams performance's from this pre-season.

Isn't Gurley the only practice squad player that hasn't been signed a futures contract? Makes me believe they are working out a multi year deal with him. That happens DD is gone for sure.

DD is not worth the 5 million he will make next year. he realizes its a business, and can play for another team, which i dont think would be in the nfc north. the packers are real high on gurley and borel.

It would be kinda stupid on his part to sign with an NFC north team and risk hurting his GB rep. I know and understand that he wants to keep playing and retire on his terms but he us setup for life in WI like LeRoy Butler, maybe even better, in terms of post playing endorsements and media gigs.

If the Packers CUT him, I would have no problem with him signing with ANY team that showed interest. In my mind, that wouldn't tarnish his Packer legend status..

After he gets cut, he needs to do what he thinks is best for him... This is no where near the Favre situation where he played his retire game and weaseled his way into MN.

Agree completely. If we cut him, and its on good terms, I couldnt have an issue with him going to Chicago or Minnesota. Still couldnt root for him, but I wouldnt have any ill will

I completely agree. But you know how some people are, booing any player that comes back with another team. I would just really hate to see that happen to Driver.

There are people who hate Aaron Rodgers and the Packers, still, after the Favre thing, so sadly I could see a few dipshits doing this. Of course, they could get run straight out of Lambeau.

I'm a packer fan. I'm a huge drunken asshole. I went to a packer/rams game a couple years ago with my brother. First order of business once we got into the Jones Dome? Yelling profanity at the top of our lungs.

We were so drunk, neither of us remember if Rodgers or Favre was on the field that day.

So Donald Driver gets cut by the Packers....and goes to play for the Bears or Vikings. You guys are OK with that? Interesting.....

i guess you missed the discussion about DD not retiring, unretiring, retiring, unretiring, and manipulatiing his way to a team because he felt slighted.

No....it's ultimately the exact same thing. The main difference is that Brett had more hype around him. Also, if DD gets cut....there will be hurt feelings on his end. Maybe he won't try to manipulate his way on to another team, but then again he doesn't have as much pull as Favre did. The only reason people hate Brett so much is because he was a QB and the importance of that position. If Favre was a WR, ESPN would not have spent months trying to build will he/won't he stories that people eventually got sick of and then blamed a silent Favre for. I'm not saying Brett is is a saint....but he sure is fuck is not the devil people he make him up to be (or the #6 douchiest person in sports...or whatever that list was)

Not even close Narc, sorry. Favre held this team hostage for several years in a row, demanding that TT make moves just to make him happy. Hell, even if that was the end of it, good chance it's all forgotten by now. But then he made so many comments afterwards towards TT and the organization, and yes forced his way out of Green Bay, that is why people hate him despite all he did for the Packers.

DD has done NOTHING. He has never once wavered in what he has said, in that he still wants to play in GB, and thinks he can contribute. If he gets cut, in no way did he force his way out, that is the Packers saying sorry, we love you, but it's a business move. Now if he comes out afterwards and says shit about TT and the Packers, MAYBE we can compare the two situations. But even then they're not the same, as like I've said, Favre FORCED his way out, DD would have been not brought back by complete decision of the Packers.
