Packers vs. Giants talk

Postby adambr2 on Jan 8th, 2012, 6:22 pm

Alright, so it's not the matchup we wanted, but if we're going to get back to the Super Bowl we're going to get there through two tough teams and there's nothing wrong with that.

Let's forget about 2007 -- other than Eli Manning these are really two completely different teams. The one comparison you could make is that the Giants current pass rush rivals what they had in 2007.

The good news is we should have a healthy O-line and our full corps of receivers, and Starks. The O-line held up okay in the first meeting and the pass rush didn't stop us from shredding them for 80 points combined in the two meetings over the last year. Continuing that trend would pretty much assure victory, though it does concern me a bit that a pretty solid Atlanta offense with weapons and a good rushing attack were completely shut down today.

It will be loud, but the Giants aren't a stranger to cold weather and unfortunately I don't expect the homefield advantage to be a major factor in this game.

Turnovers are something that the Giants often struggle with and we will certainly be looking to exploit that because with weapons like Nicks and Cruz, the yards will be there. Getting a fumble from Bradshaw and a couple of picks from Eli would go a long way towards winning this one.

Unless the Giants turn it up, the Packers should have a pretty straightforward game at Lambeau next weekend. 45-17, Packers.

Jermichael makes GBay's receiving corps deeper than NYG's. But now I'll take Nicks/Cruz/Manningham over ARodg's top 3 wideouts. Scary trio.

They have Eli, we have Aaron. Thats a huge advantage there. Eli is due for one of his blow up, suck a dick type games. We beat them on their turf. Now they come here, and maybe minus one of their starting DBs.

He's really trying to throw Manningham in there? Driver, Jones, and Finley all had similar or better numbers than Manningham this year.

He admits that our WR corps is deeper, then arbitrarily uses the top 3 of each to try to say they're better. What about the corners?

In a weird way, the fact that the whole country seems to think that the Giants will win makes me feel better about it.

Wait, what am I missing. The while country seems to think the Giants are going to win? Sarcasm?

"The whole country" is an exaggeration of course, but to say it's probably split among people on which way this game is going to go wouldn't be.

This poll: http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/story/_ ... ay-packers

has it at about that.

This game will come down to if we can contain their running game or not. If they are able to run at will, they can win. If not, and we force them into a shoot out, Eli will turn it over.

The early line is Packers -8.5. That seems to high to me and I will take those points. Haven't seen the money line number but if the spread is 8.5, should be around +300.

Over under is 52.
Accomplishments:
2010 - NFL Pick'em regular season & playoff champion
2011 - BC Dynasty Baseball league regular season champion

Words of Wisdom:

Careful though, that poll is on the ESPN New York page, so there are probably significantly more New York fans compared to the rest of the nation voting in that poll compared to other ones on ESPN.

It actually started at -10. Giants are getting a ton of action early. Cardinal rule of playoff betting is don't take an underdog to cover unless you actually think they can win the game. Do you think the Giants can win here? Sure they can.

That strategy was dead on for the Saints-Lions game. Anyone betting on the Lions could only have done that banking on a back door cover, which nearly happened. But no one could have thought going into that game that the Lions could actually WIN. You take the Saints to cover in that situation, and they did.

I doubt it. That page is a direct link from ESPN's front page article of "Jason Pierre Paul predicts Giants win." I doubt there was a very high percentage of voters that were Yankees hanging out at ESPN New York who stumbled across it.

I never heard that.. Typically, if the dog is around a 3 point spread, I will just take the money line to get the extra juice. If its a bigger number, take the points to give yourself breathing room. This is unless you feel the big spread is completly off base, then take the ML again and get the BIG juice.

Anyway, yeah I think the Giants are capable of winning and I think it will come down to the last drive. So anything over 7 is money in the bank in my mind.

The media and even the fans are all going to be think ing about the NFCCG in 07. I think a better game to look at in terms of comparing THESE teams is week 16 of 2010.

Packers needed to win their last 2 to get in... Giants were in the hunt for the playoffs, so it was a big game for both teams...

45-17 Packers... Rodgers throws for 400 and 4..
http://www.packers.com/gameday/game/2010/regular16/

My prediction for this game... 34-27.

This poll, with 43,000 votes compared to 6000 votes on the one you linked to, has the Packers at 68% to win.

I think Capers will pull a little more out of the bag for this game and scoring is down a bit, so I'll go something like 31-17.
