NFC playoffs

Postby adambr2 on Jan 2nd, 2012, 12:02 am

Well, I was hoping Dallas would get in over the Giants, but not surprised that didn't happen.

So for our divisional matchup, we can narrow it down to the Giants, Falcons, or Lions. If the Lions win it's automatically them, but that seems unlikely that they'll get a win in New Orleans. Who knows though, it wouldn't be any bigger of an upset than the Saints losing in Seattle last year.

If it doesn't happen than it's Giants/Falcons. The Falcons seem like the preferable matchup...no one seems to want to play the Giants, though the Falcons have been playing well too.

Really though I can sit here and make a case for any of the Giants, Falcons, or Lions being the team that we don't want to play. It's the playoffs, they're all tough teams. We'll just have to be better.

My predictions

Falcons over Giants.
Saints over Lions

Packers over Falcons
Saints over Niners

Saints over Packers

I just don't have a good feeling about this year. I think the D is going to give up a game winning drive.
Accomplishments:
2010 - NFL Pick'em regular season & playoff champion
2011 - BC Dynasty Baseball league regular season champion

Crazy....

I felt better about 10-6 than I do about 15-1

But, the Saints are the team I think could beat us. And here is to a shit storm in Lambeau Jan 22nd........

Correct me if I am wrong, but it was a blustery day in Green Bay this weekend? Flynn set records, like YDS and TDS for a game, plus total passing YDS. ( Our fucking backup)

As much as the Saints worry me. Its Lambeau. Aaron finally gets to protect the Tundra. He erases ANY fucker that is a Packers fan, and has that shred of nut sackage to Favre (Anyone after this year, we take it all, again, is a Favre fan, suck my balls)

IF green bay loses, and I don't think they will, it will be to the Giants. I was listening to an old pro talk on the radio, and he said the cold, if you're coming from a dome, or a warmer climate, is basically insurmountable. He said getting hit in the cold is the only pain in the world that is both dull and sharp.

I read a stat, that stated that as of 2008 only 2 times in 14 games has a dome team gone to a cold weather stadium and won in the playoffs, which was consistant to the win percentage in the regular season for a dome team in a cold stadium in December.

Had some convos about how hot New Orleans has been, but they are out of their element big time in our place.

So like Chukk said, the team in the NFC, the Gnats scare me most given everything. (ATL- Dome, NO- Dome, Lions- Dome, SF- not a cold weather team)

I should just edit this shit. A Falcons trip to Lambeau in the divisional round would be potential payback big time.

You really need to qualify that stat by looking at how many lower seeds have won at the higher seeds during that time. Obviously if a dome team is going to a cold weather stadium in the playoffs, they are the lower seed.

The Giants scare me the most as well, but the Lions just put up insane numbers in a cold December game at Lambeau and SF is essentially modeled after a cold weather team in terms of how they play.

Granted, I think the days of "cold weather football" are out the door now as offenses really don't seem to be slowed down much in Dec or Jan except by wind.

While this is true, here are some facts about road games in the playoffs, and how much closer the win percentage really is in recent times.

Also, the 14% win percentage was close to the same as a dome team going to a cold stadium in December, which a good New Orleans team could go play a poor Cleveland team, for example. I will see if I can find this article again

Something to keep in mind is how well the Saints run the ball, which might negate some of the weather concerns. They sometimes don't get the credit for it because it's hard to look past their passing game but they really do run the ball well. I keep hearing from people that SF has the best chance to win in GB because of their ability to control the clock running the ball, but in fact the Saints had more rushing yards this year on way less attempts then the 9ers do. SF just gets more credit for it because their passing game isn't great. Just something to consider.

interesting take on things. Actually supports the dome team on the road not doing as well. AS we knew, our defense has been pretty bad.

I'll definitely be rooting for the Detroit upset on Saturday night.

I'm not saying I'd "rather" play the Lions though they probably are the least of the 3 potential opponents. But the Giants, Falcons, Lions, they are all dangerous. Our weakness is pass defense and we're talking about the 4th, 5th, and 8th ranked passing offenses in the NFL. Unless Capers has been hustling everyone all season, they're all going to put up some points on us and we'll likely need 30+ to win.

But if the Lions win, we get that extra day to prepare because we know who it is, and the Saints are probably our biggest challenger in either conference -- when they have a chance at getting taken down, gotta root for it.
