Packers can't let him get away without any compensation.
Franchising him is a pretty big risk. Right now you have at least two teams in need of QB's who have close relationships with the Packers.
SO, with the poison pill type shit that goes on around the NFL, and how in MLB, if a player is traded, then certain incentives kick in, what if we arranged a deal for Flynn.
We sign him to a 5 year 60 million dollar deal(we really let whoever we're trading arrange the contract while we have exclusive rights to negotiate.
They sign him to that contract, but with ZERO signing bonus.
They then put in a clause that if he is TRADED, the team that he is traded to, must pay a 16 or whatever million dollar ROSTER BONUS due March 5th.
So basically, it wouldn't hurt OUR cap because we'd be signing him to no guaranteed money, but it'd be obvious that he'd be getting that guaranteed money because he'd be signing knowing he'd be traded.
Then you turn your attention to Wells and Finley. You franchise Finley and you TRY and sign Wells. Overpay for a 3 year deal. 3 years 21 million 10 guaranteed. Then you're not on the hook when he starts to struggle, but you've taken care of him.
Take Finley back at 5.4 million next year, and use that as a basis for an extension. 6/36 is as high as I'd be willing to go.
I think he's every bit as talented and as good as Gronk(catching the ball, Gronk can block) and Graham is probably the only guy who is more explosive as a TE, but can't block a wet napkin.
But whatever, BD's gonna make this some fucking war no matter what is said about Finley. Dude can't bring himself to admit that having a guy like Finley in the middle of the field really opens things up for the rest of the offense. And I'M stubborn.

I thought at least before you got back to your usual spiel you'd respond to the Flynn suggestion. I guess I'm giving you too much credit as you've completely gone from being able to discuss the Packers, and do little more than bitch about Finley and Hawk.

I know it's a long shot, but is there ANY chance ANYONE wants to respond to the main point here?
Is it possible to put in a "poison pill," or sorts that would in fact help out both teams?
Threaten and say that we're going to franchise him if we don't work something out before hand.
Try working out a deal with teams needing a QB, namely the first two that come to mind, Seattle and Miami.
Right now the Dolphins coach is Philbin(obviously) and their OC is Mike Sherman, who I'm gusesing was brought in because he had similar ideas offensively from his time in Green Bay. I don't recall, but Sherman wasn't in his last year as HC when Flynn was drafted, was he? Obviously Thompson had taken over by then, but was he drafted in before the 4-12 year?
Or Seattle with Schnieder. Oakland just gave up TWO first rounders for Palmer, so unless we could work out a trade for players(Rout is certainly enticing).
But we sign him to the deal that Seattle or Miami(or another team if they were so inclined) would sign him to, except we add a provision that if he is traded, he gets a large guaranteed bonus. A roster bonus, whatever type of bonus we could work.
That way we could trade Flynn, save the franchise tag for Wells or Finley, whoever is harder to sign(which is an obvious one).
Could be a way around having to waste the franchise tag on Matt Flynn while STILL keeping one of the two top FA's we have with the tag...which for Finley looks particularly enticing since it's so cheap relative to his FA value.

So we're pretty much JUST trolling now and have nothing football wise to add other than, "Finley is a punk and Hawk sucks," eh? I think it's a pretty valid question. Too bad you're still on your shit and can't answer the question like a big boy

I just don't see it happening. I think we will use the tag on either Finley or Wells.

The Poison Pill is one of my favorite off the field NFL stories or trivia. I know thats not really on topic, but the whole thing is just an awesome set of fuck yous.

They really, really are. And they're funny. I think the Vikings won that little battle though. Anyway, I wonder if this is even plausible, if it's in any way legit. It just seems like the Packers should be able to come to terms with Wells. Finley for 5.4 is perfect leverage for a longer deal, and we can't afford to go 7 million per for him with more important positions to worry about. And Goddamn we need another early pick. It'd be great to get a 1st rounder around 15 and our own. Get that OLB'er and CB/DL in the first 28 picks.
