Okay, first of all, this is for conversation only. I realize this will never ever happen for a number of reasons. If it backfired, it would go down as one of the biggest GM mistakes in NFL history, and #2, you simply don't trade the face of your franchise QB when he's 28 coming off an MVP season and a Super Bowl MVP. Its just not done. So if you feel that its ridiculous to discuss something that will never happen, feel free to just ignore this thread.
in this scenario, Rodgers is traded, and Flynn gets a similar deal to what Rodgers originally signed for, which is now far below market value. What would be your baseline asking price for Rodgers?
I think mine would be the team's next 3 first round picks and next 3 second round picks, and I don't think that would be unrealistic at all. Consider that value and possible savings given the new rookie caps, and the stocking with young early round talent that would occur for the next 3 years.
Given that does anyone think that such a move would actually not be a detriment but would instead set us up with a talented enough team to build a dynasty in the 10's? Of course, this all hinges on Flynn turning into what we hope he could be based on what he has shown in limited game action.
Again, this will never happen, but its just interesting to consider the direction that such a move would take our franchise.

Tough to even discuss it since I can't recall a trade for a player like Rodgers in the NFL for comparison, but it would have to be just a monumental package. And no, I still don't think I'd do it. Flynn has looked good in preseason, and his 2 games he's started, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. The game last year was against New England, who finished 25th in the league in total defense. Detroit this year finished 23rd in total defense, so it's not like he's doing it against the Ravens and Steelers.

Agreed, tough to find a precedent for such a trade. You could use Cutler, but Rodgers is obviously worth much more.
I wouldn't do it either, simply too high of a risk no matter what the return.
There might be logic to it on paper or in Madden, but in real life you also have to consider the effects of trading away the face of your franchise on fanbase backlash, team chemistry, etc.

For compensation it would have to be a Herschel Walker like package that Dallas got.

You can say what you want about what Flynn has done in just 2 starts, but he almost beat a 14-2 Patriots team, in New England in his first start, then set a few Packers franchise mark in start 2.
Its not like he came out against the Colts and pulled out a 17-14 win.
That being said, it has been crazy talk about what could we get for Flynn? Look at the QB talent that sat behind Favre/Rodgers (gonna add Flynn)
Hasselbeck, Brooks, Brunell, Flynn, ect.
Going with the OP, trading Rodgers, and going with Flynn, with the compensation, would be worth it I think. I dont want them too, I want to see Aaron keep doing what he is doing, but I think Flynn could do the same. Add that many draft picks? Sick
Oh, my Arizona Cardinal fans, a few of them said they wouldnt trade Fitzgerald for Rodgers straight up. Thoughts? (sorry Adam for side tracking it some)

That's absolutely ridiculous. QB versus WR, taking the QB without any hesitation.

Well that's because they just traded for All-Pro Big Dick Superstar Kevin Kolb. Between him and Skelton they have no need to trade Fitzgerald for the NFL's best quarterback.

In all seriousness, if you have 3 of those such friends, we need to get them jobs as GM's of the other three NFC North teams.

I laughed at all of them. It started with a Matt Flynn for Fitzgerald trade (A bit more realistic straight up) and one even said, they wouldnt give up Fitz for Aaron.
I just forwarded the application address of Henry Ford to all of them

Nah, it'd have to blow the Walker trade out of the water for us to consider doing it. We're talking about the games elite player at the games most important position. Teams USUALLY win Super Bowls based on QB play. BUT, lets just think about it. Lets say we made the trade with a team like the Redskins or Cleveland. My preference would be Cleveland in this scenario. Aaron Rodgers+Marshall Newhouse/Sherrod+2012 2nd round pick+2012 4th for Joe Thomas+ 2012 1st round pick, 2012 2nd round pick, 2012 3rd round pick, 2013 1st round pick, 2013 2nd round pick, 2014 1st round picks get swapped out if the Packers so choose. So essentially, the Packers get Joe Thomas 2012-#4 overall pick, #36 overall pick, and then the 58th overall pick +our own picks, #29-32, #60-66. So in 2012 we'd get an elite LT, and 5 picks in the top 66 picks in the draft. We add a guy like Morris Claiborne at CB with the 4th pick as there isn't a DE or OLB'er worthy there. With the second pick, maybe we move up 10 spots and pick another one of his teammates, Michael Brockers(rated 20th on McShay's draft board). with the 4th pick in the secnod round, add a guy like Jarvis Jones from Georgia, a 6'3 250 pound OLB'er who's a perfect fit for the Packers 3-4. So, Joe Thomas+Moris Claiborne(6'0 elite cover corner at #4), Michael Brockers(6'6 305 athletic 3-4 DE in the 20's) and Jarvis Jones(another Soph with Brockers who has the ideal size, speed and athletic ability combination on the other side from Matthews). All this added JUST in 2012 to the defense. 2013-The Browns, even with Rodgers likely win just 7-8 games. We pick around 10-18 for them. Our own pick I'd like to believe would be between 27-32. Perhaps we add another elite Defensive Lineman in the 1st round, OR another player in the secondary. With the 2nd pick, our 1st rounder, we take the top Center available, or guard. We also have the 2nd and 3rd round picks THIS year. 2014-The Browns are probably starting to get better, lets say 10 wins. We'd still probably be better, our pick is now in the 20-23 range. BPA? The thing is, it is A-ridiculous as you said, you don't trade away the key to winning Super Bowl's based on two games. B-You're counting on Thompson hitting on almost all of these picks. IF-IF-IF he did that? Now we're talking, and it's probably worth it. But if he didn't hit on all of them, and lets say Claiborne was a bust, that would hurt. But there is without a doubt a scenario in which we've become a BETTER and more dominant team. We keep our skill players, all our WR's, and while Flynn may not be THE BEST QB in the NFL, I think he could become top 10. And we take the 3 gaping holes we have on defense, plug them in with three elite talents while getting Nick Collins back, and it's reasonable to think we maintain a top 10 offense and quickly develop a top 10 defense with the additional pass rush from Brockers and Jones. Plus, Claiborne isn't Pattrick Patterson, but he's pretty close. He'd be able to step in and PROBABLY be our #1 CB right out of the gate, or at least our #2. They'd probably play him at #2 to keep the pressure off). DL-Raji/Pickett/Brockers with Neal/Wynn/Green backing them up. LB'ers-Matthews/Hawk/Bishop/Jones with So'oto/Smith/Francois/Zombo/Jones whoever else backing them up. CB-Williams/Claiborne/Shields/House S-Burnett/Collins Hybrid-Woodson-He'd be given even more freedom to just do what-the-fuck ever. Imagine a lineup on passing downs with Brockers/Raji/Neal/Matthews/Jones/Claiborne/Williams/Shields/Woodson/Burnett/Collins? Talk about fucking ball hawking...... And our Running game would be SO much better. LT is our hole and has been for the run game. Give us Joe Thomas and we're a legit running team now. It'd just be such a absurd amount of talent that would come flooding into Green Bay that while I'd never do it, if those guys lived up to their potential, you could have a Ravens of 2000 type defense to go with a top 5-10 offense. And if Flynn COULD throw for 4500 yards, 66 pct comp pct, 35 TD's and less than 12-14 picks..... In the world of fantasy, that'd be a good trade overall. The problem is,you wouldn't see TT dolls being strung up and hung....you'd see TED strung up and hung.

C'mon...what the fuck did you expect? You handed a fan-essay on a silver fucking platter. With all the components, do you think I'm capable of summing it up? Anyway, lets try again. Trade with the Browns. We get Joe Thomas+this years 1st and 2nd 2013 1st and 2nd 2014 option to swap 1st and 2nd Packers give up Rodgers+Newhouse(or even Bulaga, whichever they prefer). I think it is an interesting discussion to speculate what option would make us a better team. The best QB in the NFL or a team that gets the best LT, and would have a shit load of high picks the next few years to add to an already incredibly talented team that has a QB who's looked really good in two games. Again though...preeeeeeeetty fucking obvious you would never do this. You fuck up on the #4 pick this year and it's already a terrible decision. If ever there was a GM/HC tandem that would make such a move...... But yeah, you don't trade Joe Montana when he's 28 years old....even if you do have Steve Young backing him up(and for the record, I don't think either are as good as their comp).
