ESPN bottom line....Stated that MLB unlikely to overturn 50 game suspention of Ryan Braun.
Fuck that shit.
Re: ESPN bottom line....Saw that too, but it's still just "sources" and rumors, so still no idea how much faith to put into it. I've always been going under the assumption that it's unlikely to get overturned though.

Basically he has to prove there was a lab error (forget about it) or that the Brewers signed off on the substance (they didn't). So yeah, I think it's pretty much looking like he's screwed and we're 50 games without him next year. I still doubt he knowingly put anything illegal in his system, but that makes no difference in the policy. Cheer up, we'll save almost $2M on the payroll. Re: ESPN bottom line....So, if reports are true, then athletes should spread herpes!
Re: ESPN bottom line....I generally don't trust ESPN if they are the only ones reporting. Remember, this is the same company that said Favre was in talks with the Bears.

Re: ESPN bottom line....Didn't ESPN break this Ryan Braun story to begin with? I haven't watched ESPN since MLBNetwork was started.
New opinions are always suspected, and usually opposed, without any other reason but because they are not already common.

Re: ESPN bottom line....He's going to serve the 50-games, which is shame on both him and his management team for not running that medicine past both the Brewers and MLB before he took it.

Re: ESPN bottom line....
I think people seriously need to stop speculating on this until we have more details. This isn't any new information, its what we've known since the beginning. ESPN just decided to make an additional story based on something run in the JS. They're the ones who have been pushing out more information since the start to keep up ratings. Funny Shirts Sayings

Re: ESPN bottom line....
What fun are things if you can't speculate? There's only 2 ways he wins arb (this is reported by multiple sources, not just ESPN). 1 - prove the test was faulty, 2 - have prior approval to take the drug. That being said, he's serving the suspension. Which kills me to say. North Korea is the country the monkeys from Wizard of Oz came from
Re: ESPN bottom line....
Really? When did that happen? I never heard ESPN say that. I heard them report that Favre was open to talking with the Bears and consequently that the Bears had no interest. Re: ESPN bottom line....
On one hand I disagree and think it's stupid if a player can PROVE he has a medical issue, and this medication is the generally accepted method of treating it, then it shouldn't be cause for a suspension. But on the other hand, I agree that Braun and his management teams are complete morons if they didn't get written approval from MLB that he was allowed to take this medication. 2009 BrewersCubs.com Best Poster of the Year!
Re: ESPN bottom line....
I think that may end up being a good thing in the long run. Well...good is pushing it, but if it gives us the money to sign Aoki this year, that could be a huge boost down the road. Watching this kid hit, I think he could be really-really good. Don't care who you are, when you've the closest player to Ichiro that Japan's ever seen, you're worth spending a few million on, and we're spending it when his value is at an all-time low. Injury plagued season in which he performed below expectations. 3 time GG CF'er. Give him 50 games, see how he's playing. If he can be a .290/.360 player, he can hit leadoff, perhaps move Braun to RF and deal Hart next year provided he has a good 1st half. Salary relief, and value in prospects. Re: ESPN bottom line....
I'm guessing if you have an outbreak, you don't want to wait for a couple weeks to get approval for what you're being treated for. "Without religion, we'd have good people doing good things, and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."
Re: ESPN bottom line....
Chances are you know you have herpes, and would have meds sitting there waiting for an outbreak in a month or two. Plenty of time to get it approved. And if he just got herpes, his people should have made sure the meds were "safe." Plenty of athletes have herpes, and there are plenty of treatments out there. Braun just fucked up.
Re: ESPN bottom line....
Even so, Favre was NOT open to talking with the Bears, so either way it's still ESPN reporting bullshit. 2009 BC.Com Rookie of the Year (Best New Poster)

Re: ESPN bottom line....Espn only cares about ratings and website visits, so I don't really trust what they are "reporting" unless it's a final score.

Re: ESPN bottom line....
And how the fuck do you know this? Seriously? Are you Brett's fucking pal? I have absolutely zero doubt whatsoever that Favre was open to talking with the Bears, and other sites also reported that exact same thing. So.....no offense, but wrong, and wrong. There is a bit of a disconnect here. Some people are incapable of using common sense to weed actual, matter of fact NEWS reporting, and speculation, and ESPN does their job in distinguishing between the two. When they make a vague reference to "sources close to," then obviously they're reporting it as a rumor and not as absolute fact. When they say, "Favre's agent.....," then it's fact. So when the ticker says, "according to a source within MLB," take it for what it's worth. ESPN puts on some terrible shows, but I love the whole, "hate the empire," mentality. If ESPN was MLB Network, I'm fairly convinced they'd be just as good. But when you have five stations, and Dan LeBatard and Skip Bayless are on your network, among others, there is going to be some shit programming. It's not hard to weed through what is good and what's shit. But this is likely usless. ESPN has been deemed terrible(despite the fact that they completely changed the way sports entertainment and sports information is deceimnated to the average fan) so...whatever. This all depends on IF the herpes story is accurate. What has Braun said? Accomplishments:
