Come on TT, we're SO close...

Postby adambr2 on Sep 5th, 2010, 8:18 pm

TT frustrates the shit out of me sometimes. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a great GM, and he's really turned this franchise into what it is, a big time contender. I very much agree with his philosophy of building with the draft and think he's done a good, careful job with pursuing FA's.

But we are so damn close and everybody knows it. So close. So why not go for it, get away from what you do a little bit, make a little noise in free agency, and maybe deal a high draft pick from next year in order to bring in that bigtime corner or OLB that can change the identity of our team overnight from Super Bowl hopefuls to Super Bowl favorites?

Again, I love what TT has done here, but when you're RIGHT there, and every journalist out there thinks you can go all the way, why not just take that little extra step to put you over?? He's done so well at building for the future but eventually the future has to come. It almost feels like TT has the opposite problem of Doug Melvin. Melvin (or whoever calls the shots in Milwaukee) looks for any reason they can to go for it when they should be building for the future, and TT keeps building for the future when this team RIGHT NOW can win it all and I think it would be a shame to fall just short because of one or two deficiencies that we didn't try to fix. It's almost like TT has been building a ship for years now and he's just about finished, he just needs to order one more part. But rather than ordering the part he's figuring the ship will be just fine without it.

Even if you're not going to make a big trade, why not do what you can to get guys on this roster that can help us win now? Sure, Nick McDonald might be a decent lineman one day, but is he really going to do anything to contribute to this year's team? And is it really going to be a big tragedy in the unlikely event that somebody snags him before you can get him to the practice squad? Why not dump him, use that extra spot in the secondary where you could really use the help right now and take a flyer on Dre Bly as your nickel?

Yeah, I'm surprised by a couple of the moves... Mostly Will Blackmon. He would have contributed this year, instead we keep an extra OL who will never see the field and fcuking 3 fullbacks again.
Accomplishments:
2010 - NFL Pick'em regular season & playoff champion
2011 - BC Dynasty Baseball league regular season champion

Words of Wisdom:
(1) You can only speak in absolutes if your name begins with "Fan." (2)Strikeouts are not of any importance for hitters; however, high K's for a pitcher are.

Blackmon's been hurt and is CONSTANTLY hurt, so that doesn't bother me. I'd like to see one of the many good KR/PR's picked up via the waiver wire though.

And the FB's don't bother me. Kuhn is a good runner, and he's a solid runner, and they can all play ST's.

I could see letting the other one guy...his name eludes me at the moment, Kuhn's fucking twin, but I really like Quinn Johnson and thought he'd get dumped.

(Korey Hall).

McDonald, again, if he's that talented, we NEED a "star" next to Sitton who's already a STAR. If they think McDonald could be that guy, we could have 4 pro-bowl caliber OL with Bulaga(might be/should be eventually), TJ Lang(I liked him a lot), McDonald...though we've heard this with Breno and Barbre, some guys have the freakish bodies for it, but can't do it and Sitton who's ALREADY a Pro-Bowler even if he hasn't made it yet(IMO).

But I think the point is more going out and TRADING for those players.

We could trade a 2nd for Shawne Merriman IMO, and then we could trade a 1st and MAYBE a 3rd/4th in the following draft for a guy like Bailey, Chris Gamble or a little more for Nnamdi.

Then again, this team IS built to be a dynasty. A team that could win like the Pats and Colts over the next 10 years, EASILY averaging 11-12 wins a season and making a COUPLE Super Bowls. I suppose he doesn't want to blow his wad.

I've already made my point clear. Go out and do the following

1-TRADE for a CB. At WORST another guy like Tramon Williams so you have 1 great one, and 2 solid to slightly below average nickels with Shields developing.
2-Get a waiver wire guy at KR/PR.
3-Look for an OLB'er like a Merriman.

Do those 3 conservatively, ie, not trading for one of the 3 CB's we talked about, just a solid one, getting a SOLID return man and then a OLB'er and we could WIN a Super Bowl.

Although with Merriman banged up and on the decline, Brad Jones MAY surprise. I actually am predicting he gets 10 sacks this year.

Is Merriman even worth that right now? I thought I'd heard over the summer a 4th rounder would be more than enough. The problem, if this IS a possibility, is that he held out waiting for the Chargers to guarantee they wouldn't trade him (and I don't recall if they actually made that guarantee or not, just that he finally showed up)...anyway, since he didn't want to be traded, and IF TT pulled off this deal, what are we going to get out of him?

1. Pissed off, wants to prove something and plays balls-to-the-wall?
2. Pissed off, hates the cold weather, and clicks on the cruise control?
3. Pissed off, becomes a locker room cancer, to the point where he's more of a distraction than a help on the field (regardless of how much of a "help" he is).

I wouldn't mind this move IF we know what we're getting (also, making sure he's 100% healthy, which I'm sure they would before finalizing a deal) in terms of his attitude once he gets here.

Still not against adding a Champ Bailey or a solid #2 CB opposite CW, but the sooner the better IMO, not right at the deadline.
