2010 Packers Roster(And ideas for 2011)(DISCLAIMER-THIS POST WAS MADE OUT OF BOREDOM AND SPECULATES ABOUT HOW THE PACKERS CAN TURN INTO A DYNASTY BASED ON THE VERY-VERY FEW HOLES THEY HAVE MOVING FORWARDS. I REALIZE IT'S VERY EARLY TO TALK ABOUT WHO TO ADD IN 2011, AND I ALSO THINK WE'VE GOT ONE HELLUVA TEAM FOR THIS YEAR. AGAIN, JUST THINKING ALOUD AND TO ANYONE ELSE WHO'D LIKE TO COMMENT ABOUT WHERE WE STILL NEED HELP. NOT INTERESTED, DON'T POINT OUT 2010 HASN'T EVEN STARTED YET, I GET IT. ALSO GET IT'S A POINTLESS THREAD.)
That said, onto the good stuff.... Obviously the Packers are looking....just fucking AWESOME right now. I don't think there is a team in the NFL that has a better passing game right now in terms of QB/WR's/TE's. Looking up and down this roster we've got so much young talent it's almost not even funny. Finley in the slot with Jennings, Driver and Nelson/Jones and Grant in the backfield is just...not-fucking-fare. Now just out of shere boredom I'm thinking about how we could take this team from ONE OF THE contenders to looking at a couple of their "weak points" and that is definitely used loosely as we have VERY few "weak" area's, simply places we could get EVEN BETTER. Offensively it's RB and OL IMO. At RB, I like Ryan Grant a lot, I just think if we could add a guy who could do more, make some people miss and be a danger out of the backfield we could be completely unstoppable. Beyond that, I think we've gone a LONG way to improving our OL, but if we decided to really try and just overload our OL, not just try and get solid guys across it, but try and get pro-bowlers at every-single-position, ie, a 90's Cowboy's type OL, we'd see Rodgers set some HUGE records and could see some Tom Brady/Peyton Manning type seasons. Look at the FA's available next year and the top college players available. Young Players who are LOCKED into the roster for the next several years QB-Aaron Rodgers/Matt FlynnWith Rodgers and Flynn-We're set for the next decade OR until we trade Flynn which may be as soon as Next year. With Graham Harrell really looking good to me, I think he could also be a good backup. Now ONE guy I really like...and I NEVER would have thought I'd have said this when he was at Wisconsin(in terms of an NFL back) is Jim Sorgi. We could trade Flynn for a 3rd rounder next year possibly and then sign Jim Sorgi who is BIG and has a very good arm. Watching him play with the Giants in the pre-season he's been REALLY impressive. Future Need-Please. We NEED to make sure that Rodgers doesn't come down with syphilis so that is brain doesn't turn into mush like Capone, that's about it. And of course it's always nice to grab late round QB's we can spend years developing and turning them into future top 2 draft picks RB-Ryan Grant, Brandon Jackson, James Starks, Quinn Porter, Kreg Lumpkin-I'm just not a big Grant fan. He's a good-solid back, but I would LOVE to see two aspects added. 1-A guy who can bust some fucking face maskes on 3rd/4th and short like Marion Barber and a guy who can come out of the backfield and make 20 people miss. Not starting, 20 carries a game backs, but guys who are just solid. Jackson's a guy who looks good AT TIMES, and could be that good 3rd down back, and will have to be for THIS year. We'll see what we have after this year. Lumpkin and Porter both look good in flashes. Starks on the other hand is REALLY interesting. He'll be on IR this year, but could EASILY make a big impact on this team in the future. I really like him from what I've seen. Could bring back the Pack-Cat(ie, the wildcat offense, whatever they'd call it as he was recruited as a QB). I REALLY think he could be a helluva back for us. 2011 FREE AGENT CANDIDATES- Free Agency-DeAngelo Williams-An awesome back in short yardage and a legit feature back. Dude averages over 5.1 YPC the last couple years and with Johnathan Steward he could be had as the Panthers aren't going to re-sign him. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/p ... llDe02.htm Jamaal Charles- Charles is a guy who's going to be brought back almost for sure, but he busted out last year with the Chiefs getting over 1120 yards on 5.9 YPC with a shitty OL. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/p ... arJa00.htm Marion BarberBut the ONE back that I'd REALLY love to see us add who's most likely not to be back next year with the Cowboys is Marion Barber. There's just no stopping this dude on 3rd and 1. Doesn't happen. The BEST short yardage back in the game AND since he's not a feature back, you could still go with Grant, not spend a TON of money on him, and he fixes our weakest part of the running game. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/p ... rbMa01.htm This is the ONE guy I'd really like to add next year. Maybe 3 years 18 million or something. He's not going to carry the ball 300 times a year, but man he could do some damage with this offense. NFL DRAFT Noel Devine Devine is a 5'8 180 pound RB who's got UN-FUCKING-REAL speed and quickness, is a NASTY return man and a AWESOME receiver out of the backfield. Ryan Williams-Wasn't even the starter going into last year, but will be a draft eligible soph coming into the year. A very good, punishing runner who can catch the ball. DeMarco Murray-A guy without a lot of miles on him, and the best pass catching back of the group. Could add a whole other dynamic to the offense. Solutions- Sign Barber 3 years 18 million Draft Devine in the 3rd/4th round Future Need- It would be a LUXURY to add a more dynamic back and a short yardage guy. That's it though, a LUXURY. WR-Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, Jordy Nelson, James Jones There is Brett Swain and this kid from last night Cherry who both may make the team. Either fucking way, don't even bother trying to look for a guy to add here as you just don't need it. It'd be like Hugh Hefner thinking he has to go out and search for a hot blonde to date despite having every fucking playmate of the year at his disposal. We're so fucking money here and we don't even know it(but we do actually know it. Future Need-NONE-WHAT-SO-FUCKING-EVER. TE-JerMichael Finley, Andrew Quarless, Tom Crabtree, Spenver Hanver and Donald Lee. Finely...well..if I have to tell you about Finley, you're a fucking idiot, and stick your head in the oven(if you're a Packers fan that is). Dude's just out of this world. Absolutely fucking AN ANIMAL. The best TE I've ever seen. Just a man amongst boys. AND-AND-AND he's a guy who's blocking was a bit of a question mark. So what does he do? He comes back this year and according to the Packers TE coach has turned into a very good blocker. Quarless is basically the same type of player, though he's a better blocker and a smarter player at the same age as Finley according to the Packers TE coach(McAdoo I think). Another just freakish talent. Put those two on the field with Jennings, Driver and a versatile RB and how the FUCK do you stop it? Havner is a nice guy to have, I would cut him, but the fact he can play LB helps. Lee's the consumate veteran and good clubhouse guy, but he's no longer the best at anything. Solid receiver, GOOD blocker, but despite being the 2nd best RIGHT-NOW his upside doesn't even compare with Quarless. It's kinda like when Mary Kate and Ashley were 15 years old. Yeah, you had some of those 18 year old models who were better RIGHT THEN, but if you were going to start laying it down, you'd go with the Olsen twins just KNOWING what was waiting ahead for you! Which brings us to Tom Crabtree. This guy HAS-GOT-TO make the team. As others have pointed out, the way he absolutely obliterated opposing DE's in blocking, and has manhandled some of the best Packers pass rushers, he could be SO fucking huge for us in short yardage situations. Future Need-NONE-WHAT-SO-FUCKING-EVER. FB-Korey Hall, Quinn Johnson, John Kuhn Quinn's a fucking run blocking BEAST. Just a fucking MONSTER. Kuhn can run the ball well. All THREE are big time ST's players. Future Need-NONE OFFENSIVE TACKLES-Bryan Bulaga, TJ Lang, Marshall Newhouse, Chad Clifton, Mark Tauscher Tauscher's a guy I was flat out WRONG on. I didn't think he'd make the difference he did last year and I thought Barbre would be a stud given the chance. Well, if this was Weeks, Cain, Gomez, whoever in baseball I'd say, "he's such a talented guy and a physical specimen that you have to give him some time". But of course I wouldn't put the future of Yovani Gallardo in his hands. Barbre will play elsewhere, but NOT for the Packers. AT Tackle we've got two GOOD veterans who can easily get the job done for a year. Behind them we've got a future Pro-Bowler at LT in Bulaga IMO, and a VERY steady VERY good Run blocker and VERY capable pass blocker in Lang out on the RT side. Newhouse struck me as a RT, NOT a LT when we drafted him and I watched a little bit of video on him. But I'll say this, the Packers seem to LOVE him at LT, yet he's still a NASTY-fucking run blocker. IF he could play RT and be nearly as good as his ability says, that could free up Lang to move over to Guard. Future Need-NONE WHAT-SO-EVER on the first team, maybe some depth in a couple years. CENTER-Scott Wells/Evan Dietrich-Smith/Jason Spitz Wells went out and added 20 pounds in the last 2 years. Spitz was always one of my favorites as a guy with BIG strong bottom half who's NASTY and MEAN, but he's been injured and I think he gets traded rather than kept as depth behind the C and two guards. EDS however is a guy the Packers seem to LOVE. Could very well develop into a GOOD NFL C. Future Need- High. I would love to see us focus on building one of the greatest OL's of the last 20 years. Available in the Draft- Mike Pouncey-2nd Rounder/3rd Rounder Pouncey's brother went in the 1st round this year. His little brother being a Center is likely to fall a bit further. But he's a 6'5 330 pound MAULER at Center and an INCREDIBLE athlete. WE don't NEED to upgrade here, but AGAIN, when you've got Aaron Rodgers, don't you want to try and put him in an armored vehicle like the President Drivers? GUARD-Josh Sitton, Daryn Colledge, TJ Lang, I won't bother with guys like Barbre as he's gone, or anyone else. In this group we've got Sitton, one of THEE-BEST young Guards in the NFL. There's no doubt Sitton's among the top Guards in the league. So you've got your RG position locked up for YEARS to come. Lang could get pushed out of the RT spot by Tauscher playing a few more years and then with Newhouse playing so well at Tackle, it may be the best of both worlds. Need-None-We've got the future Guards here playing Tackle. Whoever doesn't win that job will win this one. Though there are a plethora of options. DEFENSE DEFENSIVE LINE; BJ Raji, Ryan Pickett, Cullen Jenkins, Johnny Jolly, Mike Neal, Justin Harrell, CJ Wilson, Jarius Wynn I STILL think when you've got Jolly in here, this is the BEST 3-4 DL in the NFL and just fucking loaded. Jenkins may be the best 3-4 End, and last year I truly believe Jolly played EVEN BETTER. You can question some of the things he did, but you can't question his work ethic and how hard he plays. He played the most snaps last year by a LONG shot. Getting him back next year provided he's in shape will be HUGE. He's also just ungodly athletic for a man of his size. But for this year; Again, Jenkins is one of the BEST in the NFL. Raji's a 2nd year player just ready to BLOW-THE-FUCK-UP. Pickett's a really good, steady player who's a BEST to move. With Pickett-345, Raji 340 and Jenkins 310, but so athletic and strong, it'll be a BITCH trying to run on this group. The 2nd group with Mike Neal, the strongest guy on the team who's looked great thus far, Justin Harrell, maybe the most talented who FINALLY-FINALLY-FINALLY looks healthy(and when you read this, knock on whatever fucking wood you need to). Wynn and Wilson are kinda question marks, but if you go 5 deep THIS YEAR and 6 deep NEXT YEAR of guys who are all starter quality, you don't need a WHOLE lot beyond this. Future Need-VERY-VERY little. Depends on Harrell and Jolly. If both come back, NONE. LINEBACKERS(Inside Backers)-AJ Hawk, Nick Barnett, Desmond Bishop, Brandon Chillar Hawk's in a bit of a make or break year. Hawk was a VERY good Rookie. Then he was just such a dull player. Never fucking up, but making very few big plays while playing the most vanilla position in all of baseball, the OLB'er in the 4-3 where he was asked ONLY to stay home and cut off the cut back lanes. Then FINALLY upon moving to Middle Backer, the playmakers position, he was injured and did little. Then last year he moved inside to another play makers position, though he still didn't make the big plays. The coaches talk about what a reliable player he is, but also talk about how he needs to do more than just "be there", he needs to be more aggressive. The little I've seen has looked good, but this is a HUGE year for him this year. Chillar is about as good of a backup as you can possibly have. Barnett's a guy who is always around the ball and plays hard and makes some big plays, but can get caught up in the wash a big. Bishop could be a star, but he just fucks up WAY TO MUCH. Don't be shocked to see him gone after this year. Future Need-Moderate With Chillar and Barnett signed for several years and Hawk signed through next year, but at a huge deal, he needs to show his worth. Overall, we're deep here and we're above average. This also isn't a very difficult position to Fill. OLB'er; Clay Matthews, Brad Jones, Brady Poppinga, Frank Zombo, Cyril Obiozor Zombo....what-THE-FUCK? This dude is GOING to be a player and a good one. I can't believe he was an UDFA, but he looks GOOD. I think he starts by the end of the year. Matthews is obviously a stud. POppinga's just depth right now and needs to be replaced. Jones is another guy I'm not sure of, we'll see how he progresses. Obiozor-I LOVE Obiozor. I think he could be a STUD if given the chance. Time will tell I suppose. But as of now, he looks like he's the real deal. Future Needs- High right now, 2nd biggest Need on team. DRAFT PICKS- Mark Herzlich-BC-This is the guy who was suppose to be a 1st round pick two years ago but suffered from cancer, was close to death, was told he'd never be able to play again and has come BURSTING back on the scene to rebuild his 6'3 250 pound build that made him one of the elite pass rushers in the game. Likely will fall after the 1st, but was a top 10 talent. Bruce Carter-UNC- Just one of the 6 UNC guys who could be 1st or 2nd round picks. Is 6'3 240 with CRAZY speed and athletic ability. Would give us the most dynamic pass rusher right out of the gate. Akeem Ayers-UCLA-He's the biggest of the group at 6'4 255, but he's still got EXCEPTIONAL pass rush abilities, but he's also a VERY good run stuffing OLB'er. Free Agents- David Harris NYJ-He's one of the best young CB's in the NFL, but with all the guys the Jets have paid, he's one of the guys considered likely to slip away. He's an up and coming young STUD who can do it all at OLB'er. At 6'2 245, he's a bigger version of James Harrison. Would again provide a bookend to Clay Matthews for YEARS to come. Shawne Merriman-Obviously he's got the name, and the talent, but he's slipped a bit. Bringing him into GB where he wouldn't have to be THEE guy could be HUGE for him. LaMar Woodley-Pitt-If the Packers SERIOUSLY want to put a DOMINATING group on the field, they could pony up for Woodley, the BEST available OLB'er(unless Merrimen regains his form). 13.5 sacks last year. Would probably cost us 8 years 80 million dollars with 35 guaranteed. CB-Charles Woodson, Al Harris, Tramon Williams, Pat Lee, Brandon Underwood, Sam Shields Obviously the reigning DPOY needs no introduction. The best overall CB in the league. Include me upon those who was just FLAT-OUT-WRONG about Shields. Given the fact that EVERY-SINGLE-SCOUTING report talk about how raw he was at CB, I thought there's no way he's making the team without being primarily a ST's guy, and after dropping kick after kick I thought, "fuck, this dude's gone. Well, no, he has made cutting Bush the easiest decision since...well...cutting Bush the 2nd. He's a FREAK on ST's blowing shit up with his 4.2 speed, he's SO raw at CB, but fucking Christ he makes some incredible plays that very few CB's can make. But he's likely a #5 right now. Woodson is still among the top 3 in the NFL in terms of JUST playing CB, but he does so much more. Williams is a sub-par #2 right now. Al Harris is a FREAK and I can't believe he's going to be back and actually is looking good. Underwood and Lee are question marks, though both show some upside. Future Need-HUGE-BY-FAR-THE-BIGGEST-ON-THE-TEAM Potential Draft Picks-Prince Amukamara 1st Round Pick(Should be gone in the top 15, so we need to move up to get him). This kid is an IDEAL CB. 6'0" 4.35 speed and physical. A ideal future #1 CB. Getting this kid would give us a GREAT 1-2 combo for the future with him and potentially Shields in the future and right now with he and Woodson. Other Draft Pick potentials-Ras-I Dowling a 6'2 215 pound cover corner who is IDEAL in our system. Great speed and GREAT coverage skills. FREE AGENTS-This is a LOADED position next year. 1-Champ Bailey-He's going to be 33 next year, but he's STILL one of the best in the game. Would be PERFECT to sign him to a 3 year 30 million dollar deal(and we KNOW one of the few positions TT Will aggressively go after are CB's). With him and Woodson starting, and then Shields and perhaps Amukamara learning behind them, we would go from having a HUGE weakness at CB to some of the BEST in the game. 2-Johnathan Joseph-A former 1st round pick, he's already developing into one of the BEST in the game. Would likely require a 6 year 70 million dollar deal, but IMO there are VERY few positions with such importance than CB, and again, TT WILL spend money here as he views it as one of the most important positions. 3-Richard Marshall-May be the BEST fit for us as he's a guy in the mode of Charles Woodson. A VERY physical CB who loves coming up and playing the run, is a good blitzing CB, and gets a few picks. Suffice to say I would go after CB first and foremost this off-season. If you could fix the CB situation, you'd be in GREAT shape. SAFETY-Nick Collins, Morgan Burnett, *Charles Woodson*, Will Blackmon, Atari Bigby. Collins IS a pro-bowler. He's locked up for a while. Burnett looks like a LEGIT ball hawker and I'm confident enough to say HE'LL be here for a few years. Beyond that, like most teams we've got some questions. Future Need-Just Depth "Without religion, we'd have good people doing good things, and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."
Re: 2010 Packers Roster(And ideas for 2011)So, with all that being said, and ASSUMING that Ted Thompson does what he's ALWAYS SAID he would do, ie, really be aggressive and "go for it" when his team is close, here are the moves I would make an in the order.
First positions that need to be addressed in order. #1-Secondary-CB. We need at LEAST one 1st Round Pick-Prince Amukamara 6'1" 200 4.4 CB Nebraska Should be a 1st round pick available in the late teens to 20's. May have to trade up. 2nd Choice-Ras-I Dowling CB Virgina 6'2 215 Should be available late in the 1st, BIG physical CB who excels in zone coverage and bump and run coverage. Is a very good CB coming up and playing the run. FREE AGENTS- 1-Champ Bailey Like Woodson is an older CB who is still among the elite. Coming in to play with a secondary that has been among the league leaders in picks and a SB contender may be enough to entice him. 3 years 24 million 12 guaranteed. Bottom line- Bailey starts opposite Woodson 1st rounder and Shields develop behind the two Vets. Priority #2-Offensive Line Despite Spending a 1st on Bulaga and all the money on Tauscher and Clifton, and having our Tackles and Guards set for the next 10 years, we could use an elite C. Draft Pick 3rd Round-Mike Pouncey 6'5 320 Florida Gives us a MAULING-dominating C. Priority #3-OLB'er This one's a bit more difficult without knowing how Zombo, Matthews and Jones do this year as we may look back in a years time and have 2 10 sack guys and a couple other promising young OLB'ers. FREE AGENTS- #1-Sign Davis Harris 5 years 45 million 18 million guaranteed. He's a budding star in this league and the Jets won't have the money to keep him along with everyone else. #2-Shawne Merriman He's not what he used to be, but here's to hoping that being the #2 option could help bring him back. 4 years 32 million incentive based. 12 million guaranteed. IF NOT A FA-DRAFT Akeem Ayers(or someone like that) in the 2nd/3rd round. Priority #4-RB Now RB is strictly a luxury. It could take this offense from being VERY good to being GREAT. Like dangerously GREAT. How could you stop another explosive back? FREE AGENT-Marion Barber 3 years 18 Million He provides the unstoppable short yardage back and gives you some security for Grant. DRAFT 3rd-4th Round Noel Devine Devine is a guy who should be a mid round pick who would fit SOOO many fucking needs for this team. Return man, PR and KR, 3rd down back, EXPLOSIVE back out of the backfield. He's not an every down back at 185 pounds, but he's like trying to catch lightening. Would make this offense one of the best EVER IMO. AT the end of the day you get; Your LOCK-DOWN CB for THIS YEAR(2011), you get your a future STAR and a great nickel back. You get the final piece to a DOMINATING and HUGE mauling OL that should be able to run the ball all over the place. Future OL of Bulaga/Newhouse/Pouncey/Sitton/TJ Lang That's fucking NASTY. You get another BIG-TIME pass rusher in whomever of the group you get. And FINALLY you get a big luxury and answer your return problems with a guy like Devine AND the Packers, one of the worst "_" and short teams in the league adds Barber who is almost never denied when he needs a yard or two. Now will all this happen? Will ANY of this happen? Probably not. BUT again, it's fun to talk about as if we were GM's(fuck you slaket,t I'm pretty sure I know what's coming here) for all of us who have fun speculating on shit like this, AND it's fun to think about how just a few moves could turn this Green Bay team into a LEGIT-FUCKING-DYNASTY. Look how close we are? Depth Chart QB-Rodgers/Flynn RB-Grant/Barber/Devine FB-Kuhn/Johnson TE-Finley/Quarless/Crabtree WR-Jennings/Driver/Nelson/Jones OT-Bulaga/Lang/Clifton/Tauscher/ Guard-Newhouse/Sitton C-Pouncey/EDS DL-Raji/Jolly/Jenkins/Harrell/Neal/Wilson ILB-Hawk/Chillar/Barnett/Bishop OLB-Matthews/Harris/Zombo/Jones CB-Woodson/Bailey/Prince Amukamara/Shields/Lee/Underwood S-Collins/Burnett/Blackmon/ KR-Noel Devine/Will Blackmon PR-Noel Devine P-? K-Crosby Anyway, bash away...............tell me how Thompson would never do it(though I DO think he'll surprise some of you and go after SOME guys for big money if we go 13-3 and don't win(or even do) to either push us over the edge, or help keep us on top. With all the youth, and all the depth, we're building a HELLUVA dynasty here folks....sit back and enjoy the ride! "Without religion, we'd have good people doing good things, and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."
Re: 2010 Packers Roster(And ideas for 2011)Thompson will NEVER do that!
Signing free agents Champ Bailey, David Harris, Shawne Merriman and Marion Barber..... LMAO!!! OK, bud. Have you watched TT work the last 5 years?
Re: 2010 Packers Roster(And ideas for 2011)I noticed a glaring void in the punter slot. I'm also not convinced Cosby is going to last. He's got the leg, but is getting erratic.
#1-Sign Ben Graham 3 years 5 million 3 million guaranteed. #2-Sign Ryan Longwell 4 years 10 million 5 million guaranteed.
Re: 2010 Packers Roster(And ideas for 2011)I wont lie... I cant read all that.
Here is what I see our needs as.. 1 - CB.. Woodson and Harris are getting older and we have shit behind them. 2 - Play making LB'. in the 3-4 this is the most important postion on the D and we need more than Clay and Nick. 3 - Right Tackle. Tausher is getting bad and I am not 100% sold on Lang yet. He has looked good and horrible all in the same breath. As far as TT addressing any of this via FA. Highly doubtful and I am ok with that. He wont make a move unless he is 100% sold and doesn't overpay. I hated the strategy for a while because I am a fan and inpatient. But.. IT's working, so I will go along. Accomplishments:
2010 - NFL Pick'em regular season & playoff champion 2011 - BC Dynasty Baseball league regular season champion Words of Wisdom: (1) You can only speak in absolutes if your name begins with "Fan." (2)Strikeouts are not of any importance for hitters; however, high K's for a pitcher are.
Re: 2010 Packers Roster(And ideas for 2011)Marion Barber? Seriously? If we are going to add a RB, get someone with speed. Barber is pretty much a bigger version of Grant with less speed. They had the same ypc last year, and Barber had a much better o-line with a legit change of pace back that Grant has never had. I would rather have Grant than Barber any day. I think that if we had someone like Felix Jones on the team Grant would be place to 5 ypc.
Other than that I think the only needs are 1 elite cb, a good olineman, and 1 more good linebacker, with possibly another DE if we don't keep Jolly. This team is going to be very very good for a long time. Life is hard, wear a helmet.
Re: 2010 Packers Roster(And ideas for 2011)haha. I'm glad you put in that disclaimer. I was going to call you a prick and ask you why you just can;t enjoy the fucking moment.
Shirt suckles ass like babies suckle their mothers' teats.
Re: 2010 Packers Roster(And ideas for 2011)
you be remotely serious, can you? he cant kick outdoors anymore. You look like Babe Ruth's gay brother, Gabe Ruth.
Re: 2010 Packers Roster(And ideas for 2011)
LOL.....yeah, I know. A-I said it was a pretty stupid thread. I was just bored and doing that thing I admittedly like to do where I play fantasy GM. B-I DO think Thompson WOULD go after a couple of those Free Agents IF they were to become Free Agents as he's ALWAYS said that he would "love to add impact Free Agents if he felt the team was a couple players away". Well, I think that would be the case next year. So AGAIN-AGAIN-AGAIN I realize most of this is nonsense and was just posted to sorta take the euphoria of the Packers upcoming season and play a little fantasy GM. BUT Thompson HAS spent big on a COUPLE of occasions and OFFERED to spend big. Guys I think he MIGHT actually go after; 1-Champ Bailey Look at Charles Woodson? Thompson blew Tampa's offer out-of-the-fucking-water. I could HONESTLY see him going after a FREE AGENT Corner and giving HIM big money. Give Champ 3 years 36 million IF-IF Denver doesn't franchise him with 18 million up front. That'd give us one of the ELITE CB combo's in the NFL even though both are agin. 2-David Harris- Yeah, he's out. Thompson seems to think you can get OLB'ers later in the draft, though he did go after Matthews hard. That's probably not a great idea as you don't know what he does outside of NYJ either. 3-Barber This one's tough. I LOVE, fucking LOVE Marion Barber, but he's not a 300 carry a year back with the way he runs. If he could stand up to that many, he'd be Earl-fucking-Campbell, but alas, he is not. But for 3 years 18 million, AND then maybe you draft a RB early on and cut bait with Grant? Or just give Barber 3 years 15 million and do like I say, bring in Devine and go with Grant/Barbre/Devine? 4-Shawne Merriman Well, I didn't say he AND Davis Harris, it was ONE-OR-THE-OTHER. And Merriman could easily be in Green Bay next year in a Charles Woodson-esque move, a former elite, top notch All-Pro who falls off a bit. Merriman could be brought in like we were trying to bring in LaVar Arrington on a huge inflated deal, say 5 years 50 million, but really like 3 years and 16 million or so as he would get HUGE roster bonuses later on that he'd never earn. Just for fun with us though, it's more like, "what COUPLE additions could we make to turn this team into a fucking DYN-(wait for it)ASTY!!!! "Without religion, we'd have good people doing good things, and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."
Re: 2010 Packers Roster(And ideas for 2011)
Obviously you mean KICKER.....but I don't really know. I think Crosby's going to bounce back this year, but time will tell. We'll have to see. I wouldn't bring back Longwell though. Not that he wasn't a good kicker, but he doesn't have a very strong leg, especially anymore, and I think he'd be FUCKED kicking in Lambeau again. We'll see on Mason, he SHOULD-SHOULD be the ideal kicker for the Packers. HUGE leg, one of the strongest ones in the NFL, came from a school in which he played a lot of cold, windy games in poor conditions AND made some LONG kicks and some huge game winning kicks. But suffice to say the last couple years have NOT been good enough. We shall see. "Without religion, we'd have good people doing good things, and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."
Re: 2010 Packers Roster(And ideas for 2011)
I'm enjoying the FUCK out of it. I think this team could LITERALLY win the fucking Super Bowl. I honestly would not be surprised to see the Green Bay Packers holding up their 4th Lombardi trophy this year. But you know me. I like to play fantasy GM and try to make the team PERFECT. If we were to walk into a closet that led us to a land of make believe and these moves were to happen, I TRULY believe we'd be looking at a New England Patriots-esque run. And honestly I think we could be anyway. I KNOW a lot of people hate Thompson, BUT you have to at least KINDA like how he's done it. Even if you're a huge Favre fan, you HAVE to admit he's built a AWESOME fucking team, especially offensively....maybe the best offense I've EVER seen and maybe the best offense they've EVER had(very tough to compare them to the Jim Taylor, Paul Hornung, Forest Gregg, Kraemer, power sweep days). Thompson's built through the draft, he's had some misses(Justin Harrell....who actually looks like he MIGHT be a fucking player finally, but who is still a bust), Hawk, who again, I think is an above average player, and I'd stop short of using the term "bust" but he's NOT worthy of the #5 overall pick...no middle backer is except for the exceedingly rare Patrick Willis, Ray Lewis types...which he WAS suppose to be), Brohm, Pat Lee thus far,and others. But he's grabbed SOOOO fucking many talented players and PRO-BOWLERS in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, one of, if not THEE BEST Quarterback in the NFL for the 2011 season(just this season, I think you could ARGUE that he'd be the top guy to pick. But anyway, as a result of doing this, he's built the YOUNGEST team in the NFL that has almost ZERO holes, AND a team that is signing ALL of their good players. Not in order to take that NEXT STEP and become a GREAT dynasty, he NEEDS to use Free Agency juuuuuust a little bit. Like the Charles Woodson case, he needs to go after a guy like Champ Bailey next year, or even BETTER yet, Johnathan Joseph, the young kid from Cincy who you KNOW is too cheap to pony up the money for him. He's 25 and one of the top CB's in the NFL. If the Packers were to spend big on ONE-SINGLE-FREE-AGENT, it should be a Cornerback while Woodson is still one of the games best so you can have a dominating CB duo, AND then with our offense, AND with our safeties, Collins one of the best ball hawks in the game, AND Morgan Burnett who also appears to be an ABSOLUTE stud ball hawking safety, and this team could ACTUALLY be difficult to pass on. So doing the math #1 overall run defense(and you'd be getting Jolly back next year). #1 pass offense(this is my opinion, but with Aaron Rodgers and Finley, at WORST two of the top 3 at their position in the NFL, AND then 4 WR's who are ALL quality #2 WR's...and can do it ALL. A OL that went from the laughingstock of the NFL in the first 7 games of last year allowing 37 sacks, to one of the BEST in the last 9 games allowing just 16 sacks. Add in Brian Bulaga ,a STUD who can come in and replace Colledge if he doesn't return to 08 form(a very good guard) and has another '09 year(A SHITTY guard), plus TJ Lang who was named as one of the top 25 young players in the NFL who hadn't met a certain playing time standard, Marshall Newhouse who has looked like a stud, and you're fucking SOLID as shit there. A solid running game. NOW throw in another PRO-BOWL caliber CB? And we're just silly. -AGAIN THOUGH, this is all me just being bored as the team we've got is going to be a fucking BLAST to watch. I'm always just thinking about what we can do next. "Without religion, we'd have good people doing good things, and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."
Re: 2010 Packers Roster(And ideas for 2011)
I won't lie, you don't need to. Just one of my "if I were GM posts" that goes into too much detail for most people.
Yes. ESPECIALLY Harris as he wasn't that good to begin with(solid, much like Grant, but just like Grant, vastly overrated and when it ACTUALLY comes down to it, ie, you KNOW we're going to run the ball, or you KNOW Harris is going up against a bigger WR, he gets exposed). This is why I think Thompson MAY actually spend on a FREE AGENT at CB.
I KINDA agree. But people use "LB'er" in the 3-4 broadly. Yes, there are four "Linebackers", but the Inside Guys are ENTIRELY different than the OUTSIDE guys. Simply put, without arguing, THIS is Hawk's year. In the 4-3 he was put in the WORST position in the NFL to make plays. Simply put, he was the weak side guy, and his WHOLE job entailed staying home and cutting off the cutback lanes. -THEN he moved inside the following year in the 4-3 for Barnett, the PLAYMAKING position in THAT defense. He didn't do much. He was hurt, and he moved mid year, but still, didn't do much. -Fast forward to 2009. He's playing SILB. That's not really a BIG time playmaking position, but you need to make SOME. Hawk is EXTREMELY reliable, NEVER makes mistakes. A very poor #5 pick but he WAS a better LB'er than Barnett last year. A VERY good run stuffer. BUT he was given the chance to blitz on some plays last year and graded out ahead of Barnett, Bishop and below Chillar as the MLB'ers, but NONE of them were that good. ANYWAY, main point. The LB'ing coaches have said they want Hawk to take more chances and be more aggressive this year. He's said he wants to make more big plays. This will be VERY-VERY telling. He's due 10 million next year. He will NOT get that, but if he can continue to be steady and make all the plays he's suppose to and make just 7-9 more "impact" plays this year, TFL, FF, INT, WHATEVER, he'll be back. If not, it won't be worth it. We ALSO need to replace Barnett at SOME point. Bottom line, IMO Hawk is an above average LB'er and Barnett's just a SHADE above average and a SHADE below Hawk. But the PLAYMAKER needs to come from the OUTSIDE. It'll never come from the inside. OLB'ers to MLB'ers in the 3-4 are like DE's to DT's in the 4-3 for lineman. Just not fair to compare them equally.
WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT??????????????????? NO-FUCKING-WAY!!!! Tauscher has made a COMPLETE resurgence and has been a BEAST this TC. Still, he's getting old. BUT we've got a TON of depth at Tackle. Lang, AGAIN was rated as one of the top 25 young unsung players in the game. AND Marshall Newhouse has looked like a MONSTER. I'm not sure if you mis-spoke and you meant Clifton as CLIFTON is starting to get bad. He's right now an AVERAGE pass blocker which is what he's made his career off of and the ONLY reason he was a top 10-13 type LT, and he's a TERRIBLE run blocker. But we've got Bulaga there. Seriously though, I think with RT being SUCH a run blocking spot, Newhouse could be a STAR over there based on what I've seen, and I think MOST people think Lang could be a stud as well. One will likely have to move inside to Guard. (ALTHOUGH, Lang HAS absolutely-without-question looked bad early in camp. They said due to an off-season surgery he came back out of shape, but McCarthy said he's looked great the last couple weeks. I think we've got TWO starting caliber RT's behind Tauscher though, and Tauscher looks as good as he has in years...which is why I suspect that MAY have been a brainfart and you meant Clifton without presuming to know what you're thinking....just my guess).
NO-FUCKING-DOUBT. HOWEVER, again, the ONE caveat to that is that he HAS said if he thinks this team is just a player or two away he WILL go for it. I DO think he REALLY will go after a big time Free Agent Cornerback. I think that this team is going to have to overcome it's secondary this year namely that 2nd CB. Shields MAY REALLY continue to improve and impress, but short of him, a 1st year UDFA who played ONE year at CB at Miami becoming a LEGIT starting caliber CB, we're going to need to cover up that wart. I think Thompson's smart enough to see that if he could take our LONG weakness and turn it into a positive next year, we could be a DOMINANT type team. "Without religion, we'd have good people doing good things, and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."
Re: 2010 Packers Roster(And ideas for 2011)
Dude, I realize I wrote a FUCKING-NOVEL, but if you're going to critique it(Which is cool, since it WAS definitely a bit out there), at least read the entire part that you're going to critique. Marion Barber? ABS0-FUCKING-LUTELY YES-YES-YES-YES!!!! Barber would be the IDEAL back the Packers have. To say that he's pretty much the same version of Grant with Less Speed is absolutely INSANE. 1st-Barber's speed is every bit as good as Grants. At the combine Grant ran a 4.46, Barber ran a 4.48. 2nd-Barber is SOOOOOOOOO much more physical than Ryan Grant it's not even funny. It's like asking who would win, the faggot on the YouTube thing that cries out "LEAVE BRITTNEY ALONE" or Brock-fucking-Lesner. Have you EVER seen Barber run the ball? He's the most physical back I've EVER seen in person, and the most physical back I've seen in the NFL(at TB) since Bo Jackson. He ABSOLUTELY-PUNISHES guys. 3rd-You NEED to look past the numbers. Grant's been the ONLY back in GB to get the ball. Barber has split carries with Felix Jones(better than any back the Packers have) and Tashard Choice(probably better than any back we have). 4th-What's the Packers BIGGEST(and only) problem on offense? Answer-THEIR INABILITY TO RUN THE BALL DOWN THE OTHER TEAMS THROATS WHEN THEY KNOW IT'S COMING. Now we had a terrible pass blocking OL much of last year, but we were a VERY good run blocking team. Take Babre. Played the WORST stretch at RT that I've ever seen and the same with Daryn Colledge at LT, but BOTH were above average RUN-BLOCKERS. Sitton's just a BEAST, and absolutely BEAST run blocking, perhaps the beset in the game right now, Wells gained 20 pounds and turned into a very good run blocking Center. But the BIGGEST problem is that Grant simply CANNOT-BREAK-A-FUCKING-TACKLE. He's a VERY good "one-cut-and-go" type guy. He finds the crease, and hits it hard which is impressive, but he CANNOT and DOES NOT make people miss, and he SURE as hell can't run anyone over in short yardage. In fact, Grant MAY be the WORST short yardage back in the NFL among starters. He runs so up and down that he just CANNOT get ANY movement and push the pile. BOTTOM LINE on RB's. We need; 1 Guy who can come in and fucking POUND the ball. Marion Barber is the BEST in the game IMO at coming in and just grinding out 1st downs. NOBODY is better on 3rd and 1, 3rd and 2, 4th and 1. Barber's like Sonic the Hedgehog just fucking bouncing off of people. 2-A SPEED back, a CHANGE OF PACE guy which is why I suggested drafting Noel Devine in the 3rd/4th round. THAT dude is absolutely amazing. Imagine that 5'8 190 pound fucking bug darting out of the backfield, making people miss, and then as your KR/PR? That'd be nasty. "Without religion, we'd have good people doing good things, and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."
Re: 2010 Packers Roster(And ideas for 2011)
Yeah, I agree, but I don't think McClunger's fucking around, I just think he sees Longwell's numbers which HAVE been very good. But specifically said that he wanted to kick EITHER in doors or in warm weather. Anyway, trying to be more succinct, here's what I want to see from our roster. Offense QB-Set. Maybe trade Flynn for a 2nd or 3rd after this year IF YOU CAN get it and develop another guy. RB-Grant's SOLID, not great. 1- I want a guy who can POUND the ball on short yardage and help take over the game late. This is why I think Marion Barber DESPITE not being a great all around back would be an AWESOME fit here. 2-A more versatile guy who can catch the ball out of the backfield and return kicks/punts. Again, Noel Devine is PERFECT. He's like Darren Sproles. You have NOTHING you need at TE where I think with Finley, Quarless and Crabtree(Lee would be one of the top backup's in the NFL and he may not make this team. The way Crabtree has MANHANDLED DE's this year has been STAGGERING. Just absolutely mind blowing. Finley's the best in the NFL this year IMO and he's turned into a VERY solid blocker. Quarless has every bit the potential of Finley, but is a better blocker at the same point. Lee and Havner SHOULD be gone. Havner can play LB'er. So what. He can't play it well enough to actually get by with him there. He's Brooks K-whatever-neck, and he wasn't good enough once WE got good. WR-LOADED. T-LOADED. Newhouse/Bulaga/Lang look like studs. Obviously RT is the run blocking position and Newhouse is a FUCKING-MAULER. He should play RT where he can blow people out of the water. Bull looks like he's the real deal, and Lang AGAIN was named one of the top 25 young players who are not yet starters. G-Sitton's a SUPERSTAR in the making, by far our best OL and IMO, the 2nd best overall offensive player last year relative to position. But since Guards don't put up numbers, he gets overlooked. Need to figure out the other side here. Could use a 1st round pick next year so that you've got just a LOADED OL to protect Rodgers for the next 10+ years. Colledge is the BIG question here. Has gone VERY good, bad, VERY-VERY good, VERY-VERY-VEEEERY bad in 06',07',08' and then 09'. Needs to be very good this year. C-Wells is MUCH better after having added 20 pounds. EDS looks like he could be a HELLUVA prospect, but hasn't proven dick yet. And Spitz AGAIN is a guy who's going to be starting SOMEWHERE this year and isn't good enough to start on our team. WR-Get fucking seriously. Driver will NEVER slow down. You know how people say Gallardo is a #2 right now...and he is. Imagine having FOUR Yovani Gallardo's though? Maybe none of them are good enough to be called a LEGIT ace just yet(or ever), but damn, our 4th best is SOOO much better than anyone elses(or almost). DEFENSE DL-Raji needs to show everyone he can do it for a full year. Was awesome at times last year, but by in large was unimpressive after the high ankle sprain. They say DL is the TOUGHEST position to play as a rookie even over QB. I don't buy it, but it is tough. Neal looks and sounds VERY impressive. Pickett's just a FUCKING-MOUNTAIN who plays hard. Jenkins MAY be the best 3-4 DE in the NFL, and LAST YEAR I think he was the 2ND BEST on the team behind Jolly who'll be back next year and make this group THAT-MUCH-BETTER. Wynn and this Wilson kid look like they may have SOMETHING. Not sure. But neither look to make the team because...DON'T LOOK NOW, but one Mr. Justin Harrell is ACTUALLY looking like he MIGHT be able to stick around for a season and his back MIGHT be healthy. If healthy NOBODY denies that he can do the job. I'm turning purple holding my fucking breath though!!!!! LB'er/ OLB'er-Zombo looks like a stud....we'll see in the regular season. MIGHT need one there. Matthews is a star. Jones is also interesting, we'll see how he plays this year. IF neither can be 10 sack guys, we NEED to get a guy who can. MLB'er-Just dull. Nothing special. We NEED Barnett to have a bounce back year and we NEED Hawk to finally break out a bit. He's been put in a position for a year and a half now. Time to be more than just "the most steady guy on the team". I get why the coaches love him, but Winston Moss has truly challenged him. We'll see how that goes. CB-HUGE weakness moving forward. Best in the business last year overall, but as a pure cover man, probably the 3rd-4th best. Woodson will play for 4-5 more years, moving to Safety after he stops playing the corner. Williams was unimpressive last year. Shields looks like he MAY actually be a stud in the making. But you HAVE to draft one. Safety-You're fucking loaded here. Could form one of the best young duo's for the next 10 years. Burnett looks GOOD. ST's- Punter looks good, each of them. Crosby is LOOKING better. 1-CB Sign a FREE AGENT, a top guy, draft one in the 1st round. It's a PASSING LEAGUE. 2-RB We don't NEED oen, but it'd be nice to get a guy who can do it all and can catch the ball and make GUYS-MISS!!!! 3-PASS-RUSHING-OLB'ER. BUG AGAIN, it's all depth after #1. Not a SINGLE NEED after #1. This is the most excited I've been about the Packers since they signed Mark Clayton and I thought he'd make them a LOCK for the Super Bowl....... "Without religion, we'd have good people doing good things, and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."
Re: 2010 Packers Roster(And ideas for 2011)
I did read the whole thing, and I agree with most of it, just not your assessment on Marion Barber. If Barber is a better RB than Grant, it isn't by very much. Yeah Barber has to split carries, but that should actually HELP his ypc. Barber is a very physical runner, but if you hate than Grant doesn't have the big play potential, Barber really doesn't have it, and he struggled in cold weather last year. What's Barber's salary like compared to Grants? I definitely wouldn't want to pay more money to good an average running back. If we want to spend good money on a running back, it should be a playmaker. I really wanted us to go after LT. And usually bruiser runningbacks like Barber begin to regress as they age, while a runner like Grant I could see being effective into his 30's. Life is hard, wear a helmet.
Re: 2010 Packers Roster(And ideas for 2011)Whats wrong with B Jacks?
He has some shiftyness, hits the hole hard, can catch and is a STUD at blitz pickup.. Take a look at the TD last week to Finley in 2nd quarter. He actually blocked two guys on that play giving Rodgers just enough time to get rid of it to Finley. This guy needs to be given more PT.
Re: 2010 Packers Roster(And ideas for 2011)Agree with most of your points Fan but a couple I disagree on.
- Think you're being too hard on Tramon. Yeah, he's more suited as a nickel, but last year he was usually matched up against the other team's WR1 with Woodson in the slot. Given that, I thought he was servicable. - I think there's plenty of doubt as to whether Harrell will be able to do the job even healthy. He's not even a slam dunk to make the roster at this point. I think he'll make it, but his preseason has definitely cast some doubt on his ability to perform at this level. There have been some bright spots, but some definite lows, too. I'm more confident in Neal than Harrell.
Re: 2010 Packers Roster(And ideas for 2011)
I like B JAcks as a 3rd down back, but he doesn't have the durability to be much else. He is a smaller guy, and isn't really fast for his size. A great blockers though. Life is hard, wear a helmet.
Re: 2010 Packers Roster(And ideas for 2011)
We may be talking past each other a bit here. And AGAIN, I'm not exactly being concise here, so if there ARE parts you glossed over, that's because I rambled on so long. BUT, it's not even about Barber being a better BACK than Grant, it's about Barber being the BEST-IN-THE-NFL in one aspect of the game, ie, short yardage. He's just such a fucking freak when it comes to grinding out a game, getting 2-3 yards in short yardage situations, getting into the endzone from the 5 yardline, etc..etc... Grant for our offense MAY well be better OVERALL, I don't know. I DO know that Grant's FAR more durable, but that's because Barber runs with absolute reckless abandon. But the POINT I'm trying to make is that Barber is SOOOOO much better at Grant just at the grinding out the clock, and picking up short yardage situations. And that's the Packers BIGGEST problem on offense. When teams KNOW we're going to run it, we CANNOT run the ball on them. Grant has probably more -2-2 yard gains in the league. When HE gets hit at the LOS, he goes down. When Barber does, he blasts the guy, spins, fights, scratches and claws for 2-3 yards. THAT is what we need.
AGAIN though, Barber's the short yardage guy. Felix Jones and Tashard Choice are BOTH more explosive big play backs. But when you go to your Oklahoma package(or whatever a team calls their 3 TE, goaline package) vs a defensive goalline package, you're not going to get a lot of yards. But it's that ability to get 3-4 yards when yoU HAVE to that makes him so good. Barber does NOT have the "big play" potential, and I'm not even saying Grant DOESN'T have it, I'm saying Grant can't break tackles or run guys over. If you HAD to pick ONE back, it'd be Grant. But Barber would bring a WHOLE new element to this offense.
LT is completely done IMO. I wouldn't want to spend big on him. Barber IMO being a one dimensional guy isn't going to cost a LOT of money. Perhaps 3 years 18 million, 6 guaranteed, and then like 8 in his 3rd year. So 2 years 10 million would be my guess. And Grant is NOT the type of guy(at least IMO) who'll be a good back into his 30's. But here's the thing. Lets say we go out and sign DeAngelo Williams. He's a VERY punishing short yardage back AND a guy who can be a big play back. We'd have to sign him for 5 years 60 million. I'd MUCH-MUCH rather keep Grant at about 5 million, Barber at about 5 million and then draft Noel Devine and pay him 1 million than put all our eggs in ONE basket. And I don't think RB is a position you ever go out and spend BIG one as most guys are starting to wear down a bit by the time they get that BIG pay day. Barber has enough left in the tank to fit in perfectly in Green Bay IMO. And finally, I don't know what you mean about the cold last year, but he's the PERFECT back for cold weather. How do you mean he can't play when it's cold out? "Without religion, we'd have good people doing good things, and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."
