This game has been going on for several years at the "Sports & Racing" section at gamefaqs. Last year 25 people played till the end and I finished 7th place on my first try. I will post two versions of the rules: summary and long version. Summarized version: 1. Each player begins with $100,000 2.A bet may be made either for or against the spread, or on the OVER/UNDER of a game. 3.Each week, players bet a total of $40,000 on 4 NFL Games. You MUST bet on four games every week for your bets to count. Play continues if you fail below 0. 3b. You must make at least one bet on the spread of a game AND one bet on the Over/Under of a game. Betting the spread and the O/U on the same game is allowed. 4.The minimum bet on each game is $5,000, and the maximum bet is $20,000. 5.You may, under no circumstances, pick both for and against the spread in a single game. You may, however, place a bet on the spread, and then another bet on the over/under in the same game. 6. The deadline for picks to be in is the second to last game of the week, period. This is to ensure that everyone gets four valid picks in every week. Failure to get your picks in by the time deadline rolls around will result in you losing 40,000 for the week. 7. Game of the Week: where the odds will be set at 3:2 for that particular game. 7b. The game of the week odds will only apply to people who pick playing the spread. Re: Nick Bakay NFL pick'em GameLong version:
1. Each player begins with $100,000 2.A bet may be made either for or against the spread, or on the OVER/UNDER of a game. The way spreads work is like this. If Philadelphia is at Detroit and Philadelphia is an 8 point favorite, the game will read Philadelphia (-8) at Detroit. By betting Philadelphia, you bet that Philadelphia will win by MORE than 8 points. If Philadelphia loses, or wins by fewer than 8 points, you lose the bet. If they win by exactly 8 points, you push on the bet and get your money back. On the flipside, betting on Detroit means you are betting on the underdog and it will read something like Detroit (+8) at Philadelphia. In this case, you are betting on the underdog to lose by fewer than 8 points. If Detroit wins or loses by fewer than 8 points, you win the bet. If they lose by more than 8, you lose. If they lose by exactly 8, you push again. The Over/Under bet is a little different. Each game will have what is called an Over/Under. The Over/Under is the combined score of both teams in a game. For example, let's say the Over/Under for the Pittsburgh/Tennessee game to open the season was 33. If you bet the over, all that means is that you believe the combined score of both teams will be “over” 33. If you bet the under, you believe the combined score will be “under” 33. If the combined score is exactly 33, the better would push. Here are examples of all 4 types of bets. 10,000 on Philadelphia (-8) at Detroit. 10,000 on New England at Cincinnati (+11) 10,000 on Arizona at New Orleans OVER 58.5 10,000 on Tennessee at Pittsburgh UNDER 33 Remember, a (-) means a team is a favorite, and a (+) means a team is the underdog. The (+) or (-) will always appear after the road team is listed. However, you may just assume that Philadelphia at (-8) at Detroit is the same as Detroit being a (+8) at home. 3.Each week, players bet a total of $40,000 on 4 NFL Games. You MUST bet on four games every week for your bets to count. If, at any point, a player falls below $0, they will continue to make $40,000 worth of bets every week. It is possible to go into negatives and still play this game, and even get back into the positives. 3b. You must make at least one bet on the spread of a game AND one bet on the Over/Under of a game. You may NOT bet on 4 spreads or 4 Over/Unders. You may make 3 spread bets and 1 O/U, or 2 and 2, or 1 and 3, but you must make at least one for both types, the spread and the over/under--though of course, they do not have to be for the same game. 4.The minimum bet on each game is $5,000, and the maximum bet is $20,000. So, for example, I cannot place one bet of $35,000 on the first game, and then divide my remaining $5,000 among the last 3 games. That's an unacceptable bet. An acceptable bet, however, would be to bet $20,000 on one game, $10,000 on a second game, and $5,000 on each of your remaining 2 games. I'm going to give an example of an acceptable and unacceptable bet here so we're clear. Acceptable bets 10,000 on New England (-3) at NY Jets 15,000 on NY Giants (+1) at Philadelphia 10,000 on Pittsburgh at Cleveland (+7) 5,000 on Jacksonville at Indianapolis OVER 41 Non-Acceptable bets 20,000 on Pittsburgh (-1) at Baltimore 20,000 on Cincinnati at NY Giants (-13) 5.You may, under no circumstances, pick both for and against the spread in a single game. For example, you cannot place a $10,000 bet on Dallas (-4) at Washington, and then place another bet for Dallas at Washington (+4). I would hope the reasoning for this is obvious. You may, however, place a bet on the spread, and then another bet on the over/under in the same game; for example, betting 10,000 on Dallas at -4, and then place another bet on the over 45 for the same game. 6. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, SO I'M PUTTING IT IN BOLD! The deadline for picks to be in is the second to last game of the week, period. This is to ensure that everyone gets four valid picks in every week. Failure to get your picks in by the time deadline rolls around will result in you losing 40,000 for the week. 6b. Picks need to be in before ANY of the games you're picking kickoff. If you're going to pick 2 1:05 PM games, and a 7:05 game, and a Monday Night Football game, all your picks need to be in by the time the 1:05 games kick off. Once any of the games you have picked kicks off, you will no longer be able to change your bets. 7.Returning this year will be the Game of the Week, where the odds will be set at 3:2 for that particular game. So if you bet 20,000 on the game of the week and win, you will receive 30,000 in return. This is to reward people for picking the tougher games every once in awhile instead of just trying to pick the simple ones. 7b. The game of the week odds will only apply to people who pick playing the spread, unless there is some massive problem with it. I feel that it is more difficult to pick against the spread one way or the other, and so I think it makes it more of a challenge, if you only receive 3:2 odds on the game of the week by picking the spread.

Re: Nick Bakay NFL pick'em GameI would prefer what we have been doing, but if this is what everyone else is on board with, count me in.

Re: Nick Bakay NFL pick'em GameWe are definitely doing the regular NFL Pick Em too...but this can be an additional pool for those who can handle it.

Re: Nick Bakay NFL pick'em GameYou could always look at your pick'em selections and pick four games you feel most confident in (unless you don't trust that spread).
Re: Nick Bakay NFL pick'em Game
I trust the Packers to beat the Vikings, but do I trust them to win by 8.5? You need to be at 55% or so to make money because the odds makers normally set lines at -110. Thats not as easy as it sounds. Accomplishments:

Re: Nick Bakay NFL pick'em Game$20K - Cards to win
$10K - Broncos to win $5k - OVER on Vikes/Bolts $5k - UNDER on Bills/Chiefs Let me know if I need to correct anything, first time betting like this. Should be interesting.
Re: Nick Bakay NFL pick'em Game$5K - Rams to cover (-5)
$10K - Bengals/Browns OVER $10K - Raiders/Broncos UNDER $15K - Falcons (-3) I think that's correct. Does this mean the Vikings are 9 points favorite??? Or am I missing something?
Re: Nick Bakay NFL pick'em Game
There is no money line bets, as I understand the game. You need to play the spread. Cards -7 Brondos -3 Accomplishments:

Re: Nick Bakay NFL pick'em Game
Ok, thought the spread was implied by selecting the team. So the correct bet is: $20k - Cards (-7) $10k - Broncos (-3) $5k - OVER on Vikings/Chargers $5k - UNDER on Bills/Chiefs right?
Re: Nick Bakay NFL pick'em GameJust as long you know you're picking for/against the spread, you will not get penalized for not posting the spread on your picks.
Re: Nick Bakay NFL pick'em GameThere was mistake made with the Vikings/Chargers spread posted.
Vikings were actually 9-point underdogs (9+). Brainded's Viking pick is a win. Sorry bout that. $5K - Rams to cover (+5) Actually this is how you should had picked the Rams.
