BenBadler Ben Badler MLB has informed clubs that Yoenis Cespedes is now a free agent.
Cuban outfielder gains residency in Dominican, waits on MLBThe bidding is about to begin. Cuban outfield prospect Yoenis Cespedes has established his residency in the Dominican Republic and is now waiting on approval from Major League Baseball to be declared a free agent, his representative Edgar Mercedes said. Cespedes, who just finished a stint with Aguilas Cibaenas in the Dominican Winter League, recently said the Marlins, Cubs, White Sox, Orioles, Tigers, and Indians have expressed the most interest in signing him. He is expected to command a contract greater than the one received by Cuban left-handed pitcher Aroldis Chapman, who signed a six-year, $30.25 million deal with the Reds in January 2010. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd ... b&c_id=mlb

Of course, it would be exciting if the Cubs get Cespedes, but I'm really hoping that the Cubs get Soler.

DKnobler @DKnobler Teams are waiting for the OK to start bidding on Cespedes. There's still a feeling that Cespedes really doesn't want to go to Marlins.

Yoenis Cespedes is now a free agent.
On Wednesday, Major League Baseball sent out a notice to the clubs advising them that Cespedes, as a resident of the Dominican Republic, is not subjected to the Amateur Draft and may now sign as a free agent.
On Tuesday, the outfield prospect established residency in the Dominican Republic. Cespedes’ representative must now unblock him pursuant to the OFAC regulations before he can enter into a contract.
The Marlins are on record saying they believe Cespedes’ best fit is in Miami, with its strong Cuban community. The club is prepared to make a substantial offer — between four and six years — for the power-hitting outfielder.
Reports that he is not interested in signing with the Marlins are not true, an industry source said.
Cespedes hit .333 with 33 home runs, 99 RBIs and 11 stolen bases over 90 games in Cuba during the 2010-11 season, and many believe he can be inserted into the 2012 Opening Day starting lineup for the team that signs him.
He hit .143 with one home run and 10 strikeouts in 35 at-bats for the Aguilas.

Well, he doesn't have to go to the highest bidder, does he? Can't he sign for a dollar if he wants to play for only that team? Or is this similar to Asian imports where highest bidder gets him (sans the posting fee)?

Kevin Goldstein @Kevin_Goldstein Talking to scouting exec about Cespedes. I predict Cubs, he predicts mystery team. We both agree that $$$ will exceed Chapman.
Always a damn mystery team

There is no posting fee. He is a free agent and can sign anywhere he wants. His agent will obviously want him to take the most money, but if he wants to play in a certain place or doesn't want to play for a certain team he can go where he wants.

There's a rumor the Cubs are after all 3 of Cepedes, Soler and Concepcion as well as several other international free agents. Landing all three would be.........

You ever plan on joining the big boys with your responses? The whole, "this is how I feel and I'll express it through some lame WWF," video thing has gotten awfully lame. Anyway, Goat, do you know anything about these three?

Pretty interesting insider article on ESPN today. Goldstein interviewed 8 front office types about Cespedes. Ignoring money: 6/8 preferred Cespedes to Colby Rasmus 6/8 preferred Cespedes to Drew Stubbs 5/8 preferred Cespedes to BJ Upton 4/8 preferred Cespedes to Chris Young 6/8 preferred Cespedes to Adam Jones There was one guy that liked Cespedes more than all 5 of those guys, and one who liked all 5 of those guys better than Cespedes. http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/hotstove ... -execs-mlb

NWO never had anything to do with the WWE, other than forcing vince mcmahon to buy it because Nitro was kicking raws ass. Maybe every smart ass needs to check their information.

Actually, and I'm mildly embarassed at this point in my life that I know this, by the time WWE purchased WCW, WCW was absolutely being destroyed by the WWE shows on a regular basis. Check here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Monday_Night_Wars_Ratings.JPGFrom November 2, 1998 to March 26, 2001, Raw beat Nitro every single week. WCW was such a dead franchise by the time the WWE bought it, that it only cost WWE $3,000,000. But yes, glorified stuntmen in tights, all true. I just like factual accuracy.
