Postby betroit02 on Apr 17th, 2011, 3:36 pm

We will use this to discuss all things Castro related. Starlin Castro is good at the game of baseball.

I think our goal should be to make Starlin Castro the Chuck Norris of baseball, minus the whole Christian Conservative thing Chuck Norris is big on.

Starlin Castro doesn't use a bat. He just waves his hands and makes the air hit the ball with such force that no one can catch it. He thinks using a bat would make it too easy.

Starlin Castro knows where Jimmy Hoffa is, but isn't telling.

Stickied? LOL why?

Starlin Castro has 28 hits in the Cubs' first 15 games. That is the most in the Live Ball Era by a Cubs player in the team's first 15 games. Riggs Stephenson (1929) and Hall-of-Famer Billy Herman (1936) had 27 hits in the team's first 15 games.

Starlin Castro has 9 multi-hit games in the Cubs first 15 games. Only one Cubs player in the Live Ball Era (since 1920) has more: Riggs Stephenson had 10 in 1929. Rick Monday (1976), Lou Brock (1964) and Frank Demaree (1937) also had 9.

Castro also has 6 3-hit games. That is the most 3-hit games in the first 15 games of the season by a Cubs player in the Live Ball era. It's also one shy of the most by any player on any team. Kenny Lofton had 7 3-hit games in 1997 in the Braves first 15 games. 9 other players had 6 3-hit games: Joe Carter (1995), Dante Bichette (1988), Cecil Cooper (1982), Chet Lemon (1979), Pete Rose (1976), Hank Aaron (1959), Stan Musial (1957), Wally Moon (1955), Cecil Travis (1941)

At what point do the Cubs sign Castro to a contract extension? And how much?

Look at the following:

* Ryan Braun -- 8 years/$45 million (earning $4 million this year......ONLY $4 million)
* Evan Longoria -- 6 years/$17.5 million (earning $2 million this year)
* Brian McCann -- 6 years/$26.8 million (not as highly regarded as Braun/Longoria, but one of the best at his position and at the time of the deal, it wasn't three years into the deal until McCann was making over $1 million per season)
* Troy Tulowitzki -- 6 years/$31 million (granted, this was his FIRST contract, which paid him $750k and then $1 million, all before really getting into seven figures. He did of course improve even more and the Rockies extended him an additional seven years, but the first deal coincides with my stance).

I think next season is when they offer the contract extension since he'll likely be a super-two player, we'll have some money freed up and we can see what a full season grind does to him. I'm not saying this is just a hot streak for him, but there's still some pitchers who haven't seen him much yet so let's see what sort of adjustments are made against him and how he adjusts to them. That being said, I wouldn't mind seeing something like Bruan got, an 8yr/$55M sort of deal, he plays a more demanding position for a big market club, but it'll also only run him out to when he'll just be hitting his prime (about 30) and he can get another, probably much larger, contract.

Also, I though only Stache and IP had sticky privliges in the forum here? Interesting they both are questioning the "stickiness" (justifibly so) of this thread.

I'm not sure about the stickiness either. If the thread is worthy of being near the top, then the amount of posts will justify it and it would stay near the top naturally.

LOL! Boom goes the dynamite!

I also moderate the Cubs forum, but I did not sticky this. Seriously.

Then who stickied this? It's another murder mystery. Just like who deleted my thread I created. Which still needs to be solved.

I think it's obvious Castro stickied it himself.

If he's lucky. You mess with Castro and you could get deported to Siberia.

But seriously Castro is the man. He is my main reason for watching the Cubs at this point. Maybe even my only reason.
