Sources: Starlin Castro Accused Of Sexual Assault

CHICAGO (CBS) — WBBM Newsradio has learned that Chicago Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman after a night of drinking last fall.

As WBBM Newsradio’s Mike Krauser reports exclusively, the alleged victim is a Chicago woman in her 20s. No criminal charges have been filed, but Castro is reportedly wanted for questioning by Chicago Police.

She claims that she was drinking with friends at a River North nightclub on the night of Sept. 29 when she met Castro.

Sources say she and a friend left the bar at 3 a.m. and went to the 21-year-old Castro’s apartment on State Street nearby.

According to the police report, the alleged victim said she blacked out.

She told police she came to, and found the alleged offender – Castro, according to our sources – sexually assaulting her.

The heavily redacted police report offers little information.

It says that when she woke up she screamed and yelled at her alleged attacker, and left the apartment at about 5:30 a.m. getting a ride home from her friend.

It would be 12 hours before the alleged victim would go to a hospital, and police would become involved.

By then, it is believed that Castro was on a plane, heading home to the Dominican Republic for the off-season.

Our sources do not believe Castro has been interviewed in person by police, having been out of the country since the day of the alleged rape.

Castro’s agent, Paul Kinzer, asked whether he’s discussed the allegations with his client, said, “Yeah, we have no comment on that.”

A detective assigned to the case said, “I can’t talk about that.”

The Cubs have not responded to phone calls or e-mails.

Say it aint so, Starlin

Postby Old Style on Jan 6th, 2012, 9:09 am

It makes me a little sick to even start this thread, but it deserves our attention:

http://tracking.si.com/2012/01/06/report-starlin-castro-accused-of-sexual-assault/

Apparently Starlin was having his way with a girl at his apartment when she had "blacked out." I can't help but be skeptical, because it seems every so often a woman like this comes out of the woodwork claiming some athlete or celebrity has done something like this. I know because it's Starlin that some of my homerism keeps me from being objective, but I can't help but be a little suspicious of this woman's story.

That's the shitty part about when women do this. Unless it's completely true, recklessly making an accusation like this can ruin a person's reputation for good.

I'd bet on this as well. Too many women who have "cried wolf" to take every accusation like this seriously.

This story seems a little fishy. I'm going to assume this is just another "girl who cried wolf" type of ordeal. Like Roethlisberger.

This bitch is probably a White Sox fan too. The only thing that concerns me is that this will be a distraction to Castro and bring him down somewhat.

Starlin Castro accused of assault

Chicago police say they are investigating an accusation that Chicago Cubs All-Star Starlin Castro sexually assaulted a woman last fall, but no charges have been filed at this time and Castro's representatives deny the allegation.

WBBM Newsradio in Chicago reports that the unidentified woman, who is in her 20s, was at a River North nightclub on Sept. 29 when she met Castro. After 3 a.m. CT she went with a friend to his apartment where she alleges that the assault took place.

The woman went to a hospital the next evening and police became involved, while Castro left for his offseason in the Dominican Republic, according to the report.

The police are now hoping to talk to Castro, a source told ESPNChicago.com.

Attorneys for Castro, Jay K. Reisinger and Michael P. Gillespie issued a strongly worded statement.

"We are aware of certain allegations that have been made against our client, Starlin Castro," the statement says. "We have thoroughly investigated this matter, and we are confident that these allegations are baseless. Given the sensitive nature of this matter, we cannot comment any further."

The Cubs issued a statement as well, according to WBBM.

"We are aware that a police report was filed regarding an incident involving Starlin, but we have received limited information," the statement says "While this is something we take very seriously, there is not enough information to make any further comment or take action at this time. We are hopeful when the facts are brought to light, Starlin will be cleared of any wrongdoing."

Castro has been tabbed as the new face of the Cubs franchise under incoming president of baseball operations Theo Epstein.

In his second year in the big leagues, Castro made his first All-Star team last season, batting .307 with 10 homers, 66 RBIs and a league-leading 207 hits.

After 3 a.m. CT she went with a friend to his apartment where she alleges that the assault took place.

Why go to his apartment willingly then? She clearly knew (as best to her ability given alcohol consumption) what was going to come of going to his apartment.

The woman went to a hospital the next evening...

Next evening? I know they can still figure shit out, but the time passed between the alleged "assault" and her going to the hospital has to help Castro's case when it comes to evidence.

"We have thoroughly investigated this matter, and we are confident that these allegations are baseless."

Love it!! We've seen this before and it's just a woman claiming it was an assault when it most likely is the furthest from the truth.

Okay, I'm going to hold my full opinion until more evidence comes out. However, the moment I read the first blip on this, I called bullshit. I do think this will blow over because there will be absolutely no sustainable evidence. I mean, come on -- we've seen this most recently with Roethlisberger and Justin Beiber (not rape, but same thing with the paternity claim). Yeah, there was P in the V, no fucking doubt, but each girl willingly allowed it and then given the guy's status, they cry assault. I'm hopeful, but confident this will blow over with no legal reprecussions for Castro. Besides, the CPD are handling this lol.

Without making any statements about the veracity of either the victim or Castro, it would probably be very difficult for the state to follow through on a charge on this with Castro. Whether it's fair or not, a lot of items here are going to make the alleged victim a poor witness: the fact that she got drunk with him, went to his home at 3 a.m., didn't go to get treatment until 12 hours later. Add to that the fact that her not getting treatment until 12 hours later means that the evidence was severely degraded, if not destroyed, and I actually think it's pretty doubtful Castro will get charged.

The one thing I'm actually really curious to learn that could change the analysis, though, is what happened to the friend who came with her to Castro's house? If the friend left at some point and the alleged victim stayed at Castro's that's probably pretty damning evidence against her. But if the friend was still at the house, that could change everything strongly against Castro.

The real lesson behind this event will likely be that, if anyone you know is sexually assaulted, do everything in your power to get them to treatment immediately. Not only is it the best idea from a health standpoint, but if they were assaulted it is critical for the preservation of physical evidence.

There should be a contract signing by both parties agreeing on what is about to take place given the conditions before the P finds its way into the V.

Damn, I wish I wasn't on my work computer so I could post the Chappellle Show clip about the booty call contract. Always thought that was hillariously necessary in these current times we're living in.
