Fielder on Brewers tenure: Probably 'last year'All-Star first baseman Prince Fielder confirmed Wednesday what Milwaukee Brewers fans have feared -- that this season is "probably the last year" with the Brewers. Fielder, in an interview with TBS, said, "I'm signed for this year, but being real about it, it is probably the last year." He confirmed his feelings Wednesday to reporters after the Brewers' 6-2 loss to Colorado. "It's the same thing I've been saying," Fielder said. "That's what you guys said last year. Probably. It is what it is." The Brewers have ridden the potent combination of Fielder and outfielder Ryan Braun to the top of the NL Central this season. But Fielder, when asked about keeping that duo together, said he didn't see it in the future. "It's been great, unfortunately, this is probably the last year of the one-two punch... But I think it's been good, (five) years, him and me. Hopefully, we can go out with a blast," Fielder said. Fielder, who was hitting .295 with 32 home runs and 109 RBIs, is one of the top contenders for the NL MVP this season. Braun told TBS he understood Fielder's desire to explore all options in free agency, but was focused on the Brewers' playoff run. "This game we play is a job, it's a profession," Braun said. "Sometimes I think we lose sight of that which is a good thing. But there's always a business side. Everybody has to do what is in their best interest. ... But for him, I couldn't see why every team in baseball wouldn't want him on their team. "Certainly, he will get some huge offers in the offseason. So for us right now, we are just trying to enjoy while we're together, enjoy the fact that he's still a member of the Milwaukee Brewers and accomplish as much as we can this year." http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/69716 ... ee-brewers

This will likely be one of our more exciting offseasons. New GM and a few new players for sure.

Forget Fielder, forget Pujols.
Gimme Lance Berkman for 2/$24 with a club option for a 3rd year. If the Cubs can't find a replacement for him by the end of two years, something's wrong.
I'm sticking with this one. I don't care how old he is. No sense in "AlfonsoSorianoing" the Cubs a second time.

I bet Berkman wouldn't want to play for the Cubs.

Curious. What makes you say that?

Berkman's flat out said that he wants to play for a contender or he'll retire. I also have a recollection his generally saying he's not a fan of the North Side or Wrigley, although I can't say this part is for sure. My bet is he remains in St. Louis or replaces Fielder in Milwaukee. Honestly, I want the Cubs to see what it will take to get LoMo.

Was checking out brewers' board for reaction and i had to LOL when i saw some of it: 'I hope it dont fuck the chemistry up' 'what horrible timing' etc etc. Theyre done anyway so this just confirms what ev1 had to know. Prince will definitely be a cub next year and im gonna love it when he sticks it to them good!

Berkman's future depends heavily on Pujols', obviously. Can they afford him if Pujols stays? Since his OF defense is definitely deteriorating, where does he play? (Especially if St Louis goes with Allen Craig full time for much less money) I can definitely see Berkman ending up in Milwaukee to replace Fielder, as well. Now, Morrison at Wrigley? I like that idea...

Florida has said they wont be dealing any of their pieces with the new stadium opening up. Not sure if Morrison is included in that group. I do like that idea, though.

Logan Morrison files a grievance against the MarlinsWe knew this was coming because there had been rumbles about it back when Logan Morrison was sent down to AAA back on August 13th, but now it’s official: Morrison has filed a grievance against the Marlins. The basis, as reported by Amy K. Nelson of ESPN: that the demotion was a form of discipline without just cause, not a demotion for baseball purposes. Which it probably was. Morrison was second on the team in OPS when he was demoted. But he had skipped a function with season ticket holders and his outspoken nature — particularly on his Twitter feed — was making the Marlins uncomfortable. Nelson details the many minor incidents that have involved Morrison this year. That it was a behavior thing was all but admitted by the Marlins when team president Larry Beinfest told reporters that Morrison needed to learn more about “being a major leaguer.” Ultimately these grievances don’t amount to much. Morrison could get the difference between his big league pay and minor league pay for the time he was at AAA. I suppose the Marlins would be on some sort of double secret probation. It’s probably far more significant from a team/player relationship point of view. And that didn’t seem too hot to begin with. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/ ... e-marlins/

Well yes... but that doesn't mean I don't want him. We'd probably have to give up B-Jax in the trade, which I'd actually feel fine about for LoMo. I do have some pretty severe concerns about B-Jax's K rate, and LoMo is just a better all around hitter.

I like Morrison but his OBP is kind of scary.

So you're pretty much refusing to give any long term contract to any player? Good luck landing elite talent ever again. You can't be afraid to give out a long term contract to an elite player. The problem with Soriano was that he was older, a lot of his value came with speed and outside of his mammoth year with the Nationals he was never a truly elite bat.

BassmanUW (Chicago)
Speaking of LoMo, do the Cubs have the pieces of trade from him without including Brett Jackson? You'd think his value would be down some, but LoMo is kind of my best case scenario for the Cubs at 1B. He's cheap and has a high ceiling.
Klaw
I'd certainly trade Jackson for him.

I'd say my one annoyance with Klaw is that he oftentimes doesn't answer the question that is asked.
