Chicago has apparently shifted its focus to 19-year-old Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler, though he is not yet eligible for free agency.

The Cubs, meanwhile, are willing to spend as much as $27.5MM to land Soler, though Frisaro's sources are unclear on the number of years they'd offer. New Cubs president Theo Epstein and GM Jed Hoyer have already made one significant international splash this offseason, signing 18-year-old Cuban Gerardo Concepcion to a $7MM contract with another million dollars of incentives.

Cespedes has already signed and Soler is a different guy.

Looks like we may get Jorge, would be very excited for this. Get him while he's really young and he can develop in our system.

Now it can because now he is the main free agent Cubs fans want and where all of our attention is at.

When word came out that Cubs had more interest, it didn't require its own thread. It belonged in off-season rumors. No need to make this part of the board a cluster fuck with pointless threads of its own.

BUT now it can use its own.

Looks like Jorge Soler has agreed to sign with the Cubs. Its just that he can't officially sign yet.

I really like this signing (Soler) especially since his service time won't start until he hits the bigs. 3-4 years without that makes no sense since he is 3 years away from the bigs.

Nice...this gives him plenty of time to develop and (hopefully) become the player we are expecting.

perfect fit for the Cubs timeline.

Couldn't agree more. I really like this signing as well. Soler is only 19, he'll be in the minors and his contract doesn't start until he hits the ML level. Which means Soriano's contract will run its course and Soler will take over.

3-4 years, $27.5 M. I'll take that with him over Cespedes' contract. This is one is more flexible.

Imagine an outfield of Soler, Jackson and Sczcur :shock:
