I like this move a lot. Though, Na is tough to lose. He had a ton of upside. Anyone have anything on Cates?

I'm perfectly happy with his move. The odds of Cashner being a starter long term are probably 50/50 at best.

Agreed. Hard to rely on Cashner being more than a reliever at this point.

I think I'm sold on Theo. If he unloads Soriano, I'm naming my first child Theo (regardless of gender).

My first thought was the Cubs only gave up Cashner, who has as much certainty as one side of a coin.

They like Rizzo and this means we have a young lefthanded first baseman. No Prince now...

This is true. It's so strange to have a front office for the Cubs that I have faith in. This is taking some getting used to.

It's just interesting to see a Cubs' front office with a plan. Quite honestly, and this is my wild guess a year in advance, I think the Cubs go hard next offseason in getting 2 of Hamels, Greinke and Cain.

PItching prospect Zach Cates was 4-10 at Class A Ft. Wayne with a 4.73 ERA; had 53 BB and 111 SO in 118 IP in 1st yr of pro ball.

I'm one of the few that still believe Cashner can be a starter, but the higher certainty of Rizzo is nice.
Cates is a bit more than a throw in, so that's a bonus.
Petco will make Cashner look like a stud, even in relief.
AnotherIdiot, this does NOT mean the Cubs have given up on Vogelbach.

Im in love with Theo and Co. The old IP17 would get emotional and hate the move but the new IP17 is on board with every move made by Theo and Co. No more emotional attachment to players.

Cashner was one of my favorites. I had high hopes on him. However, i don't think he was going to pan out as a SP. A bullpen pitcher at best. His arm couldn't last one MLB start. At least we got high value for him.

Rizzo will be a solid LH batter in the middle of our lineup. Will he be an all-star? Maybe not. We just need some stability at 1B for many, many years. As long as we dont have address 1B for 5-7+ years, im ok with this move.
