Official Off-season Thread (Rumors+Trade Ideas)

Postby sedgy145 on Dec 21st, 2009, 10:34 am

It's still only Week 15, but the season has been over ever since the bye week in Week 5. Either way, here goes the official offseason thread.

I don't see much going on here because the Bears don't do much in free agency and they have essentially NO draft picks....or at least any of importance. Maybe I am starting this to just vent, but I suspect others to follow, as well.

Ugh, Papa Bear is rolling over in his grave...

And Jerry Angelo would still fuck that up. Even if we knew we would have a top 10 pick in the next draft, I still would've made the Jay Cutler deal.

I guess we still could say we're playing to lose for draft status, but it really doesn't do much when we don't pick until the 3rd round. Losing the first round pick and with how high it could be doesn't bother me, not for the talent we have in Jay Cutler. However, losing that 2nd round pick and it being a possible top 40 pick is huge. That is what pisses me off the most. All for Gaines Adams who hardly plays.

Agreed. I still do the Cutler trade 100 out of 100 times. Plus, Angelo does his best drafting in the later rounds. He's going to have to find some steals this year if we want a chance at a quick turnaround.

Gaines Adams needs an off-season in the weight room. Get him with a strength coach and go from there. He still has some value. He had 13.5 sacks in 37 games with the Bucs, so he has shown flashes.

This team needs a lot, but nothing more than secondary help. Outside of Tillman, it is downright the worst secondary in all of football.

A #1 WR and OL help would be next on the list.

A new coaching staff might help too. Anytime I watch the Bears their offense seems so boring and useless.

Oh without a doubt, Ron Turner will be gone. He will be the scapegoat for everything that went wrong this season. I just hope they go out and get someone fresh. Not another re-tread.

The QB coach will also be gone. Pep Hamiltion and Cutler have not seen eye to ey all season and you just cant have that.

Also, Lovie should relinquish his position as defensive coordinator.

Yeah it seems like a better coach would be able to put the talent they do have in better spots to succeed. Do you guys think Lovie is back next year or just the cordinators? When I listen to the radio it sounds like people want everyone from Angelo down gone.

I think Lovie is retained for at least 1 more year. I dont think the McCaskey family is willibg to pay the 11 million remaining on his contract plus whatever it would cost to get a new coach. The only other coach that I see as being safe is ST's coach Dave Toub. People say he has the stuff to be a head coach, so he might get some calls this off-season for a gig higher up. Other than that, all spots are up fro grabs.

Bears need to clean house with the coaching staff and then need to get rid of Ted Phillips and Jerry Angelo.

Then, they need to bring in a completely new coaching staff, tweak their philosophy and how they do things, bring in better scouts and evaluate talent better.

After all that, then they can start bringing in better players.

The BEARS' problem runs deeper than just the "players" and Ron Turners and Lovie Smith. IMO.

My uncle told me he heard on the radio that Bears insider, Jeff Dickerson reported there is some "news" within the locker room and organization that should not be disclosed with the media until after the season.

My uncle also mention that Dickerson said the way the Bears are handling this situation it seems like that some may be losing their job soon.

Idk if theres any substance behind that but it seems interesting. Im gonna assume that its Lovie Smith only because Ron Turner's contract expires after this year, so u cant fire him.

I personally think Lovie has to go. I don't watch the Bears a lot but it just seems like the Bears need to go in a different direction. Getting new cordinators is all well and good but if you really want to change the direction of a team, you need a new head coach. Like Stache said I don't know if the Bears will pay that much money for two coaches, i always heard they were cheap. But it is clear that the Bears need an offensive minded coach. Offense wins in the NFL these days.

Although to be honest I do get a good bit of pleasure out of watching the Bears struggle. I'm still bitter about 2006 and listening to Chicago radio after the Bears get beat up is priceless. Everyone sounds like they got one foot off the ledge already. LOL

Angelo fucked you guys for the next 5 years this past season.
Accomplishments:
2010 - NFL Pick'em regular season & playoff champion
2011 - BC Dynasty Baseball league regular season champion

Words of Wisdom:
(1) You can only speak in absolutes if your name begins with "Fan." (2)Strikeouts are not of any importance for hitters; however, high K's for a pitcher are.

Holt: I'm perfect fit for Martz, Bears
Source: ESPN Chicago
Torry Holt had the best seasons of his career in Mike Martz's offense, and the free-agent receiver is open to a reunion with the new Chicago Bears offensive coordinator.

Holt was a seven-time Pro Bowler when he and Martz were with the St. Louis Rams, and it's his familiarity with the complex offense that he says makes him a perfect fit for the Bears as they try to learn the system.

"Absolutely I would consider coming to Chicago because of Coach Martz," Holt said Friday on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000. "I have kept in contact with him over the course of the years. That's my guy. I've got a lot of history with Coach Martz, a lot of great years there obviously in St. Louis. I have a tremendous amount of respect for him as a man and as a coach. Most importantly what I respect the most is his mind. I respect his passion for the game of football. I respect the standards he sets everyday."

Holt, who posted eight straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons in St. Louis, had some advice for the Bears' receivers as they begin learning Martz's offense.

"In his system you've got to be able to run," Holt said. "That's one of the things I would tell those guys, you better be able to run, and you better be cerebral to learn, and you better have thick skin because he is so demanding. You are working with a guy who is a perfectionist. If you can't do those three things and you're not tough and you're not willing to go and block and be efficient and be quick you will not play in his system."

Holt, who will be 34 next season, spent last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Bears were reportedly interested in Holt before last season, but elected to stick with their young receiving corps.

Holt said he made it known then that he would like to join the Bears, and, a year later, he is making it known again.

"This year I would again consider coming to Chicago and helping that football team out, helping Jay Cutler in terms of helping him get settled in that offense and give him a quality and consistent weapon play after play along with Hester and Aromashodu and Knox and Bennett and Forte and Olsen, I mean the list goes on and on with the talent that they have," Holt said. "I think I could fit in really well with that ballclub and add a really good veteran presence."

I could see that. Bears need a pass rusher badly and Kampman needs to get out of a 3-4 defense. He was dropping back in coverage more than he was rushing the passer this year.
