Forte w/Grade 2 MCL Sprain [out 2-6 weeks]

Postby jammin481 on Dec 4th, 2011, 3:50 pm

Forget about this game, and however the season plays out....the biggest story will be Forte's injury. It deserves it's own thread (unfortunately).

First rumor, not good.

According to Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times, there are "rumors" Matt Forte's knee injury is a torn right ACL.

Second rumor is better:

BREAKING: #Bears RB @MattForte22 is believed to have an MCL sprain, according to a league source. Further tests are necessary, however

Our entire offense is out. Cutler and Forte. Season's over fellas.

Where are the Forte haters? Cutler had a similar injury last year and they were all over him.

Also, this is going to affect his pay day...significantly.

Now Angelo looks like a genius for not paying him yet. A grade-A douche, but a genius.

@AdamSchefter (Adam Schefter)

An MRI on Bears RB Matt Forte's knee today confirmed he suffered a grade 2 MCL sprain, with no damage to ACL

Sean Jensen claiming what any knee injury is feared to be and I think trying to be the first to report it. I don't know, but his credibility took a hit if you ask me. Don't report that shit....especially considering how severe you're claiming it to be.

I like how he quoted "rumors"....what were these rumors? Drunken fools at home that saw the hit on TV and said "there went his acl." I mean seriously....I never saw any rumors about his ACL outside of Jensen's tweet. So where did these rumors formulate from? Obviously not the same sources that other Bears beat reporters talk with.

Exactly! I'm just shocked he went as far as claiming it was the worst possible injury he could have gotten. Even the announcers commented on Forte's ability to walk off the field, but still needed to wait for more word.

Personally, I don't see it that way. 2-6 weeks...why the hell would Forte come rush back in 2 weeks, which could potentially allow them to make the playoffs and get healthy at the right time.

If I were him I would take my sweet time getting healthy, he doesn't owe this team anything and his fellow players would be the first to say that.

He certainly doesn't owe the team anything at all, they should have paid him before the season started. No sense in rushing back, but I hate that this will likely affect the kind of contract he gets.

Technically, the team did offer to pay him before the season, he just chose not to accept their offer. I think this whole situation is in a very gray zone. I get that he's been a key player for us for a couple seasons now and probably deserves a fair contract, but at the same time prior to the injury he didn't have any real impressive games in the previous three or four. I can also see the front offices point of view in that they have control over him with the franchise tag option and in all honesty, RBs aren't all that irreplaceable and have relatively short shelf lifes. Every draft there's a few quality RBs as well a a few hidden gems.

Probably because their offer was insulting.

Seriously, you want to look at the last 3 or 4 games instead of the last 60? Sounds like you should be working in the Bears front office.

And the Bears have such a sterling track record in the draft, especially when it comes to the skill positions. NFL contracts aren't guaranteed. The guy has earned and wants to be set up for life by being paid well over the next few seasons. It is very likely he will also produce at a high level for that time and the team has the money.

And the shitty thing is by not spending it on Forte, you know they are just going to piss it away on a medium talent skill player like, oh, I don't know...Earl Bennett.

Never said it was a great offer, just pointed out that they made a contract offer and he declined it.

I seem to recall his second year he had some injury issues as well and wasn't as solid either. This is more than just the last three to four games.

They were smart enough to draft Forte, they've had some other pretty good RBs in the past as well. Also, are you saying that RBs aren't replaceable?

I think Forte will get paid, and I hope it is by the Bears. I'm not arguing for or against either side, I'm just pointing out that there are arguments either way.

Yes, but you pointed that out in response to someone saying they should have paid him. Saying they should have paid him in terms of NFL players implies that he should have been paid appropriately, therefore your response does not apply.

chiguy79 wrote:I seem to recall his second year he had some injury issues as well and wasn't as solid either. This is more than just the last three to four games.

2009? He started all 16 games, as he has done every year prior to this one. He ended with 1400 yards from scrimmage, which was a down year for him but was pretty much a function of how bad Cutler was. Personally, as an outsider, I think its pretty obvious that Forte has been the best skill player on the team since his first game in the NFL. I don't know why any Bears fan would try to diminish what he has done or accomplished so far in his career.

Yes, Curtis Enis, James Allen, A-Train, Jones, and Benson have all sent shivers down the spines of NFC North opponents over the years. And a player like Forte is NOT replaceable. He may not be a long term option (no RB is these days) but he is far from replaceable.
