Devin Aroma Therapy

Postby The Great Santo on Sep 8th, 2010, 5:51 pm

So waht kind of year do you Bear fans think this guy will have? Is is going to play a big part of your offense? I picked him up in my fantasy league but am unsure of his role.

I think he's going to have a pretty fuckin solid year. Cutler wanted this guy in Week 1 last year but the Bears didn't put him on the 53-man roster until Week 12 or something. He torn it up 3 weeks with the Bears.

Him and Cutler will have a special connection. I say he's going to be your sleeper pick. Depending on whether the o-line can give us time. I'll post some stats for ya.

He's going to be a big weapon for us this year hopefully.

You can read up a little about him: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devin_Aromashodu

Well that's good to know. I picked him up as a bench spot. My team has reciever problems. I might even have to start him this week.

Well, he starts the year as the slot WR, which doesn't really make sense. When you think slot WR, you think of a fast, shifty, small guy. Hester or Knox would both be better in the slot rather than the outside, but its not up to me.

My guess on what he puts up this year

65 Catches, 800 yards, 9 TD's

Hes a huge red zone target. With his size and jumping ability.

IMO, Hester and Knox should be slot WRs and Aromashadu and Bennett should be Wide outs.

Olsen and Aromashadu are Cutler's two FAVORITE targets.

Agreed. Though im not sold on Bennett

No doubt. Those 2 will be the main red zone targets. And that will result in those 2 leading the Bears in receiving TD's

I think Bennett should improve this year. He's not super fast but he has decent hands. Definitely need more playing time. With Olsen/Clark, Knox, Aromashadu and Hester, he should be the wild card in this offense.

I think Cutler having more than ONE red zone target will cut down his RED ZONE INT's. Now the defenders wont double and triple team Olsen and Cutler wont be forced to throw it to only one guy.

Looks like DA is going to be the #1 WR

Hester forgotten man in Week 1

One game does not make or break a season. Keep that in mind when analyzing the role of Devin Hester in the Chicago Bears' offense.

Mike Martz could easily make a concerted effort to get Hester the ball on Sunday in Dallas, which would force many of us to reconsider our placement of Hester in the hierarchy of Bears wide receivers.

Because right now, Hester looks like the third option at wide receiver, at best.

"Targets" is a somewhat misleading stat in the NFL. Sometimes a player can be "targeted" for a pass that is simply uncatchable, thrown out of bounds or thrown into a crowd of defenders. Although the statistic can be flawed, there is no way to overlook how Jay Cutler distributed the ball on Sunday against the Detroit Lions.

Here is the breakdown of Cutler's 35 pass attempts against Detroit in terms of "targets".

Devin Aromashodu: 10
Johnny Knox: 7
Matt Forte: 7
Greg Olsen: 6
Chester Taylor: 4
Hester: 1

But here is another example of why things are never black and white in the NFL. One might make the argument Hester isn't getting the ball because Cutler doesn't trust him to be in the correct spot, at the correct time, in this highly synchronized passing system.

On the other hand, this could be a case where Hester is doing his job and getting open, but for whatever reason, the quarterback simply refuses to look his way.

Or maybe it was just a fluke.

The Bears insist this system allows for a different receiver to step up in any given week and lead the team in receptions or yardage. That very well could be the case, but because the opportunities presented to Hester versus Aromashodu and Knox were so out of whack last week, it raises legitimate questions.

Making Devin Hester a WRs was the WORST decision the Bears ever made. He was naturally good at it and they take him away from that. Hester returning punts and kickoffs for TDs would help his team. Give the Bears' offense good field position and take some pressure off the defense.

All around BAD move. I give Angelo and Lovie an "F" for this move. I knew this the day they announced it. If he isn't going to be a #1 WR, put him back as PR/KR.

Yea he was. Opposing teams would have to prepare an in-depth game plan on how to cover kickoffs and punts vs. Hester and the Bears. It was crazy. During the week, thats all the media would talk about. Now, you don't hear a peep.

It cant be the scheme, because we have the same special teams coach still here. Whatever it is, I hope they fix it and can get Hester going again.

Aromashodu disappears from offense
Source: Jeff Dickerson / ESPN Chicago
ARLINGTON, Texas -- In the span of one week, Bears receiver Devin Aromashodu went from primary target to barely playing.

After being thrown to 10 times by Jay Cutler in Week 1’s win over Detroit, Aromashodu hardly saw the field in Sunday’s 27-20 win over Dallas, finishing the game with zero receptions.

"I really don't have an explanation," Aromashodu said Sunday. "I don't know why. Maybe we had a different game plan for the matchups we had. I'm happy with the outcome of the game, so that's all that matters."

Despite catching five passes last weekend, Aromashodu did have a few drops, including one in the end zone. That could explain why the Bears decided to play Earl Bennett instead of Aromashodu in certain situations in the victory over the Cowboys.

"I guess [that it was the drops], that's the only thing I can say,” Aromashodu said. “I mean, I haven't been told anything."
