Postby moolamaka on Jul 15th, 2010, 2:14 pm

RB Harvey Unga from BYU

from 2007-2009 he has 3,446 rushing yards and 35 TD's...

does this mean anything?
will we see him on the field?

What are his vitals? Height/weight/40 time/etc.? Probably the same route of a Kahlil Bell from last year. Will get a good look in training camp and preseason and if he plays tough and impresses the coaches, he'll end up on special teams.

Hmmmm

Forte, Taylor, Wolfe, Bell

I dont see Unga cracking the 53 man barring any major injuries.

I wonder how this supplemental draft works. Why has he lasted this long and not even signed anywhere? Puzzling. Maybe he just needs a chance. I'd gladly swap him for Garrett Wolfe.

Here is the low down on the Supplemental Draft:

The NFL supplemental draft is a little different from the regular draft in April everyone is used to. There are usually only a handful of players that enter. The players that enter are usually, for whatever reason, not going back to school in the fall. Some, like BYU's Harvey Unga, were suspended for the upcoming season so they had no reason to go back to school if they couldn't play football.

The draft is like a silent auction. For example, if the Dolphins wanted to draft Unga, they would put in a bid for him. If they put a bid in on him -- let's say a fourth round pick -- then they would be awarded his rights if no one else put in a higher bid.

The catch is that if they were awarded him, they would surrender a 2011 fourth round pick.

Most recently, the Redskins spent a third round pick on DE Jeremy Jarmon in the 2009 supplemental draft. That means they were awarded Jarmon and surrendered a 2010 third round pick.

Turns out he was dismissed from the Brigham Young University for violating the university honor code. What was his infraction? Pre-marital sex. Yes, for having sex. Since BYU does not believe in pre-marital sex because of their religious backings, Unga's girlfriend got pregnant and obviously it came out he had pre-marital sex. Therefore, he was kicked out of the university and then was included in the Supplemental Draft. Not bad for a 7th round pick. No red flags with his personality or anything.

haha those Mormons. But yea for a 7th round pick I'd take him... I could see him being like a 2nd or 3rd round guy in the real draft next season anyways.

Bears sign Unga to four-year deal
Source: ESPN Chicago
CHICAGO -- The Chicago Bears signed running back Harvey Unga to a four-year contract on Wednesday.

The Bears selected Unga in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL Supplemental draft following a decorated career at BYU, where Unga finished as the Cougars all-time leading rusher with 3,455 yards, while also catching 102 passes and scoring 45 career touchdowns.

Unga left BYU this spring after violating the school's honor code, which prohibits sexual relations with somebody outside of marriage. Unga and his girlfriend welcomed their first child in early July and were recently married.

He is expected to compete with Garrett Wolfe, Khalil Bell and fellow rookie Brandon Minor for a spot on the Bears' final 53-man roster.

I doubt that, but in any event, for a season in which the Bears had a swiss cheese draft, they grabbed another talented player because of more religious nonsense.

God I hate Morons and their magic underwear(and I admit complete ignorance and merely repeating that from other places, I don't know anything about their "magic underwear" or where that comes from).

Opps, MorMons.....just such an easy mistake.

Bears put Harvey Unga on IR
Source: Jeff Dickerson / ESPN Chicago
BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- The Chicago Bears placed running back Harvey Unga on injured reserve Thursday.

Unga, selected by the Bears in the seventh-round of the 2010 NFL supplemental draft, injured his right hamstring in the early stages of training camp. He was expected to compete with Garrett Wolfe and Khalil Bell for a roster spot in the backfield, but instead, Unga will essentially redshirt this season and attempt to make the club next summer.

The former BYU standout will count against the Bears' 80-man roster until cuts begin to occur at the end of the month.
