We need someone mobile. Favre (not that its realistic) and Bulger would get destroyed behind this offensive line. I'm cool with Jeff Garcia. I know hes more of a west coast system guy, but he could be the guy for the job.

Nathan Enderle. I'm not so sure Enderle would do a worse job than a backup QB that hasn't played all season, let alone possibly for more than a year. Besides, if the Bears get down to their third string QB, it's over. I'm confident with Hanie, but it ends there.

Pretty much my thoughts as well. It's week 12, it's not like there's going to be a very effective QB sitting by the phone. Enderle has at least been in the meetings and practices, so will have some familiarity with the system, but if it comes to that, the season's shot.

It has to be someone who knows the Martz offense, otherwise he's basically useless.

Interesting. Hmmmm, the story took the words out of my mouth.

Broncos waived QB Kyle Orton.
Interesting. The Broncos weren't going back to Orton, so the hope is that a QB-needy team such as the Bears, Texans, or Chiefs will claim the remainder of his $7.4 million salary. The obvious dot-connecting is with the Bears and former coach Lovie Smith, though Mike Martz's offense is much different than the one Orton ran under Ron Turner from 2005-2008. Tim Tebow is locked in as the starter in Denver.

It would be nice to have Kyle Neckbeard Orton back, but I still say we have to have someone who knows the Martz offense.

Kyle Orton waived

Broncos just waived him....interesting. Gotta wonder who else would be interested in claiming him?

Already mentioned in the Bears backup thread. This should be combined.

Mike Klis of Denver Post reports Orton invited release from Broncos after Jay Cutler was injured. Would invite a return to Chicago.

Bears are 30th in the waiver order, not gunna happen.

Orton will either be a Chief, Texan, or Dolphin. Doubtful he makes it to Chicago.

And who is that that's still in the league? The only QB's available I can think of off the top of my head are Bulger and Warner and they're both firmly retired. Jon Kitna and Alex Smith both played under him but are currently on rosters. Any vet available outside of Orton would take a few weeks minimum to get back into playing shape probably as well. I don't think Orton is a bad option as a 2nd or 3rd string.

Would be pretty surprised if Texans don't go after him too. #1 defense in yards allowed, #2 in points, tied for 9th in takeaways. #2 in rushing yards per game. And one of the best receivers in the NFL in Andre Johnson. They just need an average QB who won't make mistakes and at least gives them the threat of a passing game, and Orton does both of those. Not sure Leinart does either.

The Houston Chronicle reports the Texans have no interest in claiming QB Kyle Orton on waivers.

This hardly a surprise. The Texans are confident in Matt Leinart, who has been in Gary Kubiak's offense for two years. Any QB they sign will be a third-stringer behind Leinart and T.J. Yates. The Chicago Tribune and Fox Sports' Jay Glazer both report the Bears do indeed plan to put in a claim for Orton, though he's expected to back up Caleb Hanie if awarded to Chicago.

I'm hearing that the Bears WON'T put in a claim for him, since they're 30th team. Only the 49'ers and Packers would follow, and neither are likely to put a claim in. If Orton clears waivers, then the Bears, who Orton's agent has said that Orton would like to return to, can negotiate a cheaper deal with him, instead of having to pay the $2.5M still left on this year's deal.

That's the best way to do it. That was the risk Denver took by putting him on waivers, hoping someone would pick up the rest of the contract. Let him hit the open market (if he does) and grab him for the prorated minimum.
